You might as well through in bike helmets too. I'm not for more regulation but closed head injuries can be prevented. How about a tax credit for those that purchase and actually wear their helmets - now there's a incentive!

having people wear helmets. it's about TELLING PEOPLE TO WEAR HELMETS AND CHARGING THEM LOTS OF MONEY WHEN THEY DON'T. if it were about having people wear helmets, helmets would be free and you would get a big discount off your insurance if you wore it.

I agree. Freedom doesn't equual passing your medical expenses from injury on to other individuals or insurere.

a big problem. I would guess that if you have enough money to ski here then you probably are one of the 97% with health insurance. Go learn to have fun and it won't make you so mad when you see others enjoying themselves. You are pitiful.

I've skied for over forty years. I don't wear a helmet and I won't. I have my own insurance so you don't have to pay for me if I get hurt. You may have to pay some extra taxes when the ski area I ski at goes out of business because I'll quit skiing in Michigan and go out west to ski for a week instead. I don't want you to pay for my head injury just stay the hell out of my life!

Public toilets are way to dangerous with all that steel, porcelin and tile; Please mandate that all people need to rent a helmet to use public bathrooms and protect me! Help!!! I don't think I can survive without govt telling me what to do,,,,,,,,RRK yooper

I already leave Michigan in the summer to get away from the motorcycle helmet laws; now I will have to leave in the winter to ski helmet free. Michigan is losing major dollars!!

I too have skied for 35 years here and in other countrys and never wear a helmet. I am an avid motorcyclest and do most of my riding attending out of stste events because of the motorcycle helmet law. If they pass this stinken law requiring me to wear a helmet to ski here in my home state, no more Marquette Mountain season pass purchase,or visits to Brule, Riply, Bohemia, the Porkies, Indianhead, Blackjack or powderhorn in the state. I'll spend my money skiing in boardering states exclusively rather than occasionaly, the same as I do riding my motorcycle. Wake up law makers!!!! It's no wonder our state is going down the tubes. "IN GOD WE TRUST ALSO" it sure in the hell isn't you guys.

We are still waiting for Granholm to blow us away here in Michigan, this bill would be a good start to blowing away more tourist dollars and jobs in Michigan. My father started skiing in Michigan in the 40's, raised 6 kids to ski and now 12 grandkids. No one has ever had a broken bone, let alone a head injury. Our kids are leaving the state to find jobs and we are leaving the state to ride our motorcycle! Florida here we come!

Allow us as free citizens to CHOOSE whether or not we want a helmet on when skiing - it should not be a mandate! I personally think that the use of all of these helmets is overrated and a total waste of money. I suppose the people who have invested in the production of these helmets are pushing for this intrusive, wasteful, stupid proposal.

These people - these so called representatives - are NOT representing the citizens of MI interests. Our state is in the worst finanical disaster in history and this is what they spend time one - trying to figure out how to FINE everyone for EVERYTHING. MI gov't - do us all a favor - hold a session of the house and senate on top or the Ren Cen, and when its over, walk to the edge.............AND JUMP! And take Jen Jen with you. I have a better idea. Lets FINE representatives $1000.00 everytime they do something stupid. I figure that way, in a few months we could cover the whole Michigan budget within a few months. Hell, Jen Jen could cover that by herself.

First off Michigan ski slopes are not the best to begin with and if you start making people wear Helmets they are just going to go somewhere else like OH and ski down a MT. of Garbage. Stop trying to be our governmental Nanny, last time I checked my parents were still around to tell me what to do. If you need revenue start writing tickets for the burnt out tail lights, it would be fun to know when people are turning and stopping for a change. Missing Big Mountains But we ski what we got.

Please keep your eye on matters that are important Bob. Worring about my saftey at the hill isn't an important matter. I can look out for myself, you need to look out for issues that effect more than just a handfull of michiganders.

God. You people in the national joke (national embarrassment, really) known as "Michigan" sure seem to love your helmets. It makes me wonder whether the one successful business still located in Michigan happens to be a helmet manufacturer?

i'm a ski instructor at a northwest mi resort, i've never wore a helmet, and dont plan on getting one any time soon.... so when i'm teaching kids (3-6yrs.) on the beginner "slope" i'll have to wear a helmet, most of the time i don't even have skis on!!! i'm calling Bulls#!t.. I know my limits and stay within them..like any body would that has half a brain. and to think some jack off in southren michigan wrote this bill. most of the resorts in michigan are north of lansing.... last i checked this was a "free" country! as long as my choices don't infringe on the rights of someone else i can do what ever i want!! including NOT wearing a helmet when i ski/snowboard! most helmets sold for winter sports are only rated for about a 15 mph impact. GET A LIFE BOB CONSTAN... SO YOU WONT RUIN MY WINTER!!!!!!!

So I have been snowboarding for a rather long time(9 years and about to test out for ski patrol) and I'll admit that I was going faster than what I thought while I was in the trees but did not see a jump that was over a hill and managed to have a really bad accident and apparently I hit a tree and didn't know what was going on but I did managed to get up and finish my run and if I was not wearing my helmet I would have brain damage or be dead... well there is a big dint in my helmet!! I was in the hospital for 11 days and people cant even tell that I was in an accident! Soo I recommend that you do wear a helmet!

Helmets are a good idea, but if i don't want to wear one and i get hurt, that is my choice. Get the government out of my life, it is MY LIFE right? I used to wear a helmet when i was first learning to snowboard and i still occasional throw the thing on when i hit the park, but if i am an experienced snowboarder just out for a nice pow run i don't need a helmet. I snowboard at shanty creek resort the place were a girl was killed, and now there is a law to make everyone wear helmets. Where were her parents? Why wouldn't they take some personal responsibility and make there child wear a helmet. Don't force me to wear one.

Kill this nanny state bill now.  With all the crap wrong with our state this shouldn't even be on the radar screen.  Needless, unwarranted, meddlesome tripe providing yet another reason for Midwest skiers to look to states other than Michigan.  I'll be the first to pass on skiing in my life long state, having begun at age 4--51 years without incident.  You want a helmet.  Wear one. On YOUR head.

 obviously, our legislators have SOLVED all of our state's problems, and have now moved on to littler, and less important things...

or is this how they occupy their time, wheedling away our rights?

this shows a lack of respect for the citizens, and a mindset that if a citizen gets hurt, it's the GOVERNMENTS JOB to pay for it.
