This law is more than stupid. For God's sake stop being the "Nanny Government". And dont' say it is for the "children", it is just another element of control that the state wants over its citizens. Get to work on cutting these stupid taxes.!!!!

I think this is great idea since most parents who smoke in the car do not seem to realize that they are ruining their child's health. The only people who could be opposed to such a law are selfish smokers. As for enforcing it, there are a lot of laws that are not enforced. However, most people are less likely to do something when they know it is illegal.

This is great. Let's go even further. I suggest you propose a Green Clean Schools bill Like the states of New York and Illinois. Their laws mandate schools to clean with products that do not cause adverse reactions that cause children to become ill and miss school. My son has asthma and it is often triggered by cleaning products. Please see the link for more information. http://www.healthyschoolscampaign.org/campaign/green_clean_schools/updates.php

I grew up in a home with a smoker who smoked 4-5 packs daily and I'm fine. What about a law to not be operating a vehicle with anyone who is alive or is nearing death, IT'S NOT RIGHT TO SPEED UP THEIR DEATH. Just another way the government is tring to run our lives.

I am not a "selfish smoker" and in fact I don't even smoke, but I STRONGLY oppose this law! The government needs to mind its own business, and I'm very sick of the "for the children" excuse. Michigan is fast becoming a state of imbeciles who think they know what's best for every citizen of the state. What is completely disgusting is if these people really cared about "the children" they'd stop allowing birth control pills to be passed out to children in middle school without a parent's permission! This proposed law is just one more way for cash strapped cities/counties of this state to rake in money from the fines they'll levy against anyone driving a car with their children and partaking in a LEGAL activity!

"What is completely disgusting is if these people really cared about "the children" they'd stop allowing birth control pills to be passed out to children in middle school without a parent's permission" It has nothing to do with "the children". It has to do with controlling other peoples lives and money. Anybody that tells you different is a liar.

TOTALLY AWESOME LAW

I think this law is great, I don't think anyone that does'nt choose to smoke should be subjected to other people's cigarette smoke, and this law would speak for children that have no choice and give them a cleaner environment.

It's Not The Governments Job To Be Our Mommy. I don't think fat people should be allowed into a McDonalds with their children. We've all seen then, the hugh dad, round mom and a bunch of chubby little kids. Let's pass a law. Obesity kills quicker than smoke ever will and the new studies show that it is contagious. How about gays? They shouldn't be near kids because if kids emulate their lifestyle choice it will doom them. Where does this crap end sheeple? How many decisions are you ready to let the imperial government make for you?

..and I never have smoked, but I heartily disagree with this law. Let the government do it's job, and let parents do their job. Soon they'll be taking the kids away & putting them all in orphanages because "we" don't know how to raise 'em. And be sure you won't get much of your paycheck then! Heck we already hand enuf over to 'em. "For the children" indeed. Wake up & smell the rotting roses, people. It's all about "for the government."

carbon monoxide from one rusty muffler than a case of cigarettes. ban salt on the roads if carbon monoxide is your main concern. nice try.

And I hope that every single time one of these anti-freedom, overcontrolling, nanny government bills come up that we roll it into a little tube, and legislatively stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

Control freaks and idiots. This used to be a free country. I can't believe morons like this, keep getting elected. Try writing and passing intelligent, meaningful, helpful legislation, instead of the control freak Nazi crap like this.

"The only people who could be opposed to such a law are selfish smokers" The only people who would want to use "the children" to further their socialist control freak agenda are truly evil. I want to put your chubby little cherub on a scale every time you feed him. Maybe we could have it wired right to the gestapo affice then you wouldn't be able to cheat. I can see it now, sorry chubby, it's tofu for you until you get down to the government mandated weight. When are you sheeple going to wake up? Smoking is just the first bogeyman, just wait till they come for your bon bons and there is no one left to help you.
