2007 House Bill 5089 (Repeal sunset on prisoner DNA evidence appeals )

Introduced in the House on August 8, 2007, to revise the law allowing a prisoner to appeal his or her conviction on the basis evidence generated by new DNA testing technology. The bill would eliminate the Jan. 1, 2009 sunset of that law, allow more prisoners to appeal, give courts greater discretion in authorizing DNA testing in such cases, and ease the requirements a prisoner must meet to be allowed an appeal

The vote was 106 in favor, 2 opposed and 2 not voting

(House Roll Call 210 at House Journal 29)

    Please pass this bill!

I find it unconscionable that this bill has not been passed by the senate considering that it could allow wrongfully convicted prisoners to prove their innocence. I strongly urge the judicial committee to bring this bill to the senate for a vote before the previous bill expires at the end of the year. A concerned citizen, CP of Bloomfield
