    Key Words

"his or her establishment" Not the states establishment Not the cities establishment Not the feds establishment HIS or HER ESTABLISHMENT If you don't like the way HE or SHE is running their PRIVATE business, then stay away, go somewhere else. These stupid laws are about control from little minded people that are jealous that some folks may be enjoying themselves. Get the nannies out of our lives, cut taxes and watch all your other problems disappear. We need an I.Q test for government folks.

    Ridiculous!

This idea is every bit as abhorrent as the idea of charging motorcyclists an extra licensing fee for the privilege of being able to splatter their brains on the state’s highways. Material for the legislative trash bin, I’d say.

    the government believes

that simply because they license ONE activity in a bar, that they may regulate EVERY activity in a bar. they wish to extend this logic to your homes as well. say goodbye to personal liberties.

    How True

I know a guy that owns a business in canada. They outlawed smoking in all the businesses and he didn't really care since he doesn't smoke and his store didn't allow smoking anyways. He is rethinking this after the government smoking inspector payed him a visit. He told them he was in compliance. The inspector then prceeded to walk around his business looking in drawers, behind the counter, in desk drawers etc. He said he was looking for ashtrays or any other signs that there was evil smoking going on. It sure is a good thing they took away canadians guns prior to outlawing smoking. Now he understands what I've been preaching to him. Give up one right, you might as well give em all up.

    i heard on 'canadian radio'

that the canadians are having a hard time with health care, seeing as the average treatment takes YEARS, and they don't even know if the average canadian has the right to complain about it. if you want to get a good idea what socialized medicine is good for, take a look at the canadians, and the british, and the french. the canadians die on a waiting list, the british system doesn't allow anything but life threatening treatments (thus the horrible dental conditions) and the french aren't sure WHAT they allow, so you show up at a hospital and take your chances.

    what purpose would the

levy, or TAX serve, other than to allow the collection of revenue by selling back our rights? it does not 'punish' smokers, it only punishes the businesses who plan on allowing smoking in them. it does not 'prepare the state for the inevetible expenditures that come from smoking' as the sum is incredibly small, and those funds would be better taken from the tobacco lawsuit funds which have already been misspent. so, the ONLY purpose for this levy is to fix a price on our freedom. the price for the freedom to purchase a weapon is registration (twice) and threatened confiscation. the price for the freedom to CARRY that weapon is about $400.00. the price for the freedom to ride without a helmet is going to be $100.00 per person on a motorcycle. now, the price for the freedom to smoke in an establishment is going to be %500.00. i understand that freedoms are not free, but they are OUR freedoms. the state STOLE THEM, and is now using the law to ransom them back. if our freedoms were a bit more 'tangible', the legislators could be jailed for theft.
  • 06-28-2007 7:22 PM In reply to

They should shut it down, not fine them.

Smoke free, and proud to be!
  • 06-28-2007 7:24 PM In reply to

Fine them $500 EVERY TIME someone lights up, please.

    Thanks!
  • 06-28-2007 7:25 PM In reply to

This bill is CRAP! Protect us from second-hand smoke, please.

    Thanks!

    Shame on you, Rep. Bieda

    Sneaky legislation.

Are you *(*&* kiddin' me? Sneaky legislation!

    Nice try, though.
  • 06-29-2007 2:52 AM In reply to

    are you SO STUPID

and SO ADDICTED TO THE NANNY STATE that you cannot PROTECT YOURSELF from second-hand smoke? obviously so... if you ARE too stupid to protect yourself from second hand smoke, you are OBVIOUSLY too stupid to vote.
  • 06-29-2007 8:27 AM In reply to

Nanny state is getting old. You're going to have to do better than that.

    lol
  • 06-29-2007 9:01 AM In reply to

    it was a question about

YOU, not the nanny state. aren't YOU bright, smart, and intelligent enough to PROTECT YOURSELF??? don't you raise your children to know enough about how to protect themselves too? is it the PROPER ROLE OF GOVERNMENT to teach YOUR KIDS about the dangers of smoking? is it the PROPER ROLE OF GOVERNMENT to regulate every activity in your life? i know that, as a liberal, you are question phobic and addicted to the highest level of control possible, so i DON'T REALLY EXPECT AN ANSWER, but then, the REST OF US already know what your answer would be.
  • 06-29-2007 9:09 AM In reply to

A question for YOU? Should I have to AVOID an area to protect my health?

I think not. I pay taxes and elect LEADERS that I think will help protect my health. If they don't, I won't vote for them again. THAT is my expectation. My social studies ACT scores were MORE than adequate, thanks for asking. I know how government works.
  • 06-29-2007 9:16 AM In reply to

You will be pleased to know after reading an informational selection for

comprehension out of Time For Kids on the dangers of smoking, we role played how to say NO if someone tries to talk you into smoking. That is connecting the text to the real world. The teacher next door came in during that time. I thought he might cry. He said he had recently buried his father from lung cancer and smoking, and that he thought the few minutes that I took to do that were worthwhile. I'm sorry if you disagree or it ruins your day.
  • 06-29-2007 9:22 AM In reply to

    YES...

it's plain and simple. if the atmosphere in a building is TOXIC, no matter how much fun you think you might be having, it's in YOUR BEST INTEREST to avoid it. it won't be an easy decision, but if second hand smoke is as toxic as you say it is, then it's just best you don't expose yourself to it AT ALL. if you need the state to tell you that...
  • 06-29-2007 9:25 AM In reply to

    do you KNOW how

life works? you elected people based on their ability to THINK FOR YOU. to MAKE DECISIONS THAT YOU ARE UN-PREPARED TO MAKE FOR YOURSELF. instead of being a FREE and FREE THINKING citizen, you CHOSE to be one of the proletariat. you freely admit that your capacity to make important life decisions is so deficient that you have to waste your vote on those that can take you by the hand and lead you to the public trough.
  • 06-29-2007 9:29 AM In reply to

    so, you read your kids

an article, and role played? is that IT? didn't you take your kids to a cancer ward to introduce them to the effects on REAL PEOPLE that smoking causes? didn't you take them to an autopsy to show them first hand what black lung looks like? didn't you bring them to a clinic to show them the people on oxygen bottles who are still smoking despite having about 5% lung function left? if not, then you are SLACKING IN YOUR DUTIES AS A PARENT. if you are going to let the state tell you how to raise your children, don't expect that ONLY THE LIBERAL PART OF THE STATE WILL GET TO SAY WHAT IS 'PROPER PARENTING'.

Good question! To clarify, it's a partnership w/ my leaders. I know...

the way to Lansing, their email addresses, phone numbers, the email addresses of local tv and radio stations. I teach my students the same values. We all know the way to Lansing and the elements of position letters. Thanks for the feedback, so that I could clarify your understandings. Have a nice day.
  • 06-29-2007 9:36 AM In reply to

    you really think that

knowing the email address to your representative is a VALUE? do you know his position on things you think are important? do your students know his position on the things THEY think are important? this is something you NEED TO KNOW BEFORE you cast your vote. do you REALLY need to be lead by the hand, or can you THINK FOR YOURSELF and perhaps GIVE YOUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE SOME LEADERSHIP when he has strayed from the path you elected him to follow. i didn't elect a LEADER, i elected a REPRESENTATIVE. do you teach your children the DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO? do you know what the german word for LEADER is?

  • 06-29-2007 9:42 AM In reply to

    do you know the answers

to the questions being asked? do you know why the liberals are afraid to answer them?
  • 06-29-2007 9:44 AM In reply to

    to those who elected

LEADERS instead of representatives. the german people did the same thing in the 1920's they elected this guy to lead them, as obviously they were incapable of leading themselves. his title, in german was chancellor, and DER FUHRER. (the leader)
  • 06-29-2007 9:56 AM In reply to

Ok, right! We are talking about protecting health not death camps.

I think our system (including this lovely website that lets citizens give feedback to representatives and communicate with them) of government is a bit more sophisticated than the one you have made mention off in your last post. I think children having no choice other than to sit by their parents in eating establishments should be safe from second hand smoke. I'm a teacher, and I this happens to be my 2nd REAL day off this summer so far in which I haven't gone into school to plan for next year. I find this site therapudic compared to my usual daily demands.
  • 06-29-2007 10:03 AM In reply to

it is theraputic, and it is

educational. make use of both. so, how many children in YOUR CLASS are suffering from lead poisoning? have you been educated on how to tell?
  • 01-23-2008 12:14 AM In reply to

    can you say tax

This guy thinks we are idiots. This is a tax and he doesn't have the honsty to call it that.
