    Ban Smoking in the dorms

Banning smoking in the dorms makes sense. So many times people have fallen asleep in their homes which then catch fire and burn causing death and destruction. Designated smoking areas will need to be established to provide these young adults areas to use instead.

    Ban Smoking in Dorms!

I agree, this trend is something that is taking place in the health care facilities such as hospitals, the employees must be off the property to smoke. Dorms should not be any different, the second hand smoke affects are far reaching and impacts more people. Keeping our young adults healthy will keep them learning and not fighting off colds and side affects of the smoking.

    Ban socialism, not tobacco

But what about all the second-hand socialism that our young adults are exposed to in college? Throughout history, socialism has killed far more people than tobacco ever will.

    Well Said Except

that it is not second hand socialism, it is socialism 101 rammed down their throats with a telephone pole. If you don't tow the socialist line in most schools you will have a very hard time getting good grades.

    Better get rid

of all the junk food also since most of them will be morbidly obese and die earlier than the smokers will. Better close all the party stores and bars also, there just might be someone having fun and we all know that all you controling stuffed shirts really care about is making everyones life as pathetic as yours is. Where do you know it all nannies want this to end? In truth you are just a bunch of control freaks. Go get a life and try to enjoy it a little. Must be a terrible existence to spend every waking minute worrying about what will kill you.

    Moderation does wonders.

Control freaks, I think not. Responsible adults with a conscious and who care about my fellow man is not a bad life to have.

    care about them,

yes, but do NOT control them. you have no right telling anyone else what to do, whether you think it's for their own good or not.

    dear control freak.

i'm a responsible adult, with a conscience, and i firmly believe that you should spend about a thousand dollars to purchase a handgun to defend yourself. after that, you should spend another thousand or so to attend classes to properly and safely learn to use the gun i think you should buy. this way, you can be safe AND proficient in the care and usage of this new gun i think you should buy. after that, i think that you should spend about ten thousand dollars to attend the bondurant school of driving, as i think that attendance at that school would be good for you, as it would help make you a safer and more proficient driver. when you are through with that, my conscience dictates that you should go on a diet, so that you can become a healthy member of society. then, my conscience also dictates that you should go out and spend a hundred thou or so to finish your master's degree, as you KNOW how good that would be for you. then, i'm abliged to say, you should go to the home depot and buy about fifty gallons of pink paint, because painting your house pink would reduce stress, and we ALL know how good that is for you. when you finish all these tasks, come back, and i'll scour my conscience to see what other things i can demand that will improve you.

    Big Difference Between

Caring and Controlling your fellow man that does things you don't agree with. "Responsible adults with a conscious and who care about my fellow man is not a bad life to have"

    Money talks........

It's not what you know but who you know.

    What are we discussing?

How did the conversation go to hand guns, Master's degrees and pink houses?
  • 05-18-2007 8:37 PM In reply to

I can see where you're coming from.

I can understand where you're coming from but parents need to let go and let the young adults make their own choices. We had to learn the hard way sometimes, they need to learn the same hard lessons. I didn't realize how many hospitals, restaurants, and businesses are going smoke free. Relatives have had to deal with cancer and they never smoked. It doesn't seem fair since they chose NOT to smoke and they still got cancer.

    to answer your question

the discussion was directed in the direction of 'doing things that I say are good for you'. indeed, all these things are beneficial, of that there is no doubt in my mind. so, in the spirit of true liberalism, you should go out and do all these things immediately. if you find that performing these tasks is DISTASTEFUL to you, tough, liberals have been telling the rest of the world what to do for years. it's time they had a taste of their own medicine.
