    Fuck Granholm

That fing cunt ruined this state and lives for all in it. I hate that bitch. Drivers fees are such a load of shit. They're bringing in millions of dollars that just go into the general fund where they all piss it away and fatten their pockets. Granholm worst of all. Do some research and you'll see what a pig that ugly bitch is.

    Who cares

I live in Illinois and some collection agency has called me several times to collect on one of these fines. I basically told them to drop dead I will never pay a penny that was 3 months ago and I never heard from them again. I feel sorry for the fools from out of state who actually pay it.

    responsibility fee

I think its ironic that there is a responsibility fee when you are pulled over for no proof of insurance. It seems to me that the majority of the people who don't have insurance don't have it because they can't afford it. How is making them pay the ticket and two hundred dollars for two years going to make it any better?
  • 04-04-2008 1:40 PM In reply to

    This is BULL

Not only do they rape you with the suspension if you don't pay the stupid fees but they don't accept credit card payments so you can get it over and done with. How in the world am i supposed to come up with $1000.00. Am i supposed to pull it out of my ass. If I could shit money I would have a whole lot more money than I do now, and I sure as hell wouldn't be living in Michigan.

    Help!

I first received a notice in 2003 for not having proof of insurance. I was insured and did not have to pay a ticket and assumed the fee would be waived as well. It was not and my failure to pay resulted in a suspension which resulted in more DR fees. I lived 10 miles from my work and daycare and did not have money to pay these fees.I did make the choice to drive while suspended but being a single mother I really do not have many options. Now the state is taking any day-care assistance and I recently lost my job. How am I supposed to find work, child care, and support my family without transportation? At this point I am thinking that I have to stay on unemployment since I can't afford child care and the state will be levying $220 dollars a month. I don't know what to do anymore. My family is now living in poverty due to this law. The most frustrating thing is the funds are going to "fire safety". So many families are living hand to mouth for "fire safety funds". I do not know why there isn't more outrage. Perhaps it is because the people in power have enough money to not be effected.

Michigan Drivers Responsibility Law, An Unfair Act During Hard Times

In Michigan, since October 2003, there’s been a diabolical little law in place called the, Michigan Driver’s Responsibility Law. This devious program was put into effect to supposedly tax unsafe drivers for negligent or dangerous driving conduct. Sounds like a good idea in theory, but I’m seeing it more as a grab for cash in a state that really can’t afford it. I’m currently struggling through bureaucracy and red tape to get my license reinstated due to this, “what I consider”, unfair law. Sign the petition to have this law repealed here. http://natebal.com/journal/2008/05/12/michigan-drivers-responsibility-law-an-unfair-act-during-hard-times/

    Michigan's Downfault

Not only did I pay one year of this fee, but they want to tack on a second year of this fee. Well not only will michigan not be getting paid for this "fee" this is the straw that broke the camels back and I will no longer be living in michigan... Soon enough they only reason anyone will be in michigan is if you're a corrections officer, or in the corrections system...

    problem with this fee

Young drivers who are inexperienced are probably more likely to get this fee attached to their license. This fee does not teach people to be better drivers, it puts them in the position of driving without a license if they cannot afford to pay the fee. I think that a better solution would be to make bad drivers pay (based on income) for classes to improve their driving skills. And if the driver's are under a certain income level or the driver can show that this fee would be a financial burden, at least give them a license to drive to and from work.

    I'm with you Michigan's Downfault

I complained to my representatives about this bad driver tax and the way the state was harassing me (I made 6,000 dollars last year and do not receive, nor ask for, any government handouts, and the state wants 1,000 of that, they kept saying they would freeze my bank account if I did not pay more). I got no help, luckily I found free legal counsel and found out that the state's threats were empty due to my situation. I finish my Masters next fall and then am out of this sorry excuse for a state.

    Doug

In November 2007 I was pulled over for a taillight being out. I did not have my proof of insurance but told the officer I had it and it was in affect being that it was a deduction pay from my payroll. Told to take the ticket into the courthouse with evidence that my insurance was in affect on the date of the ticket and current proof and the fine would be waived. I did and it wasn’t I still paid the $140 and thought I was done. I received notification from the State Treasury??? Why them?? And I called to say I had paid that fine and it would be unconstitutional to levy anything additional to this one offense. Told the gentleman that I never lapsed in insurance. Thought being that it was from the treasury that worst-case scenario they would take it from any future tax rebate(s). Well yesterday I found what the Michigan Taliban could do. I was driving in my station wagon with my honor roll teenage daughter to pick up my 11 year old son from my ex wife. I do not drink, smoke, do drugs, work 2 jobs to pay my support and pay for my daughter and me to live moderately. My driving record is 100% clean. I was pulled over by the White Lake Police Department. I was looking to my daughter saying did I make a bad right turn? She who has her permit said no. Honestly the only thing I could think is that we had the music too loud. I was told that I was pulled over for having an obstructed view. I HAD MY SONS BABY SHOES DANGLING FROM MY MIRROR. The same son who is now 11. Those shoes have moved from 3 cars and never was I told they were inappropriate. I was like ok ill take them down. They went back to their cruiser and came back and told me to get out of the car. I was told I was driving on a suspended license and had to be taken in. I was handcuffed in front of my son and daughter who were both panicking. They didn’t even let me tell her it was going to be ok and just shoved me into the police car. My Daughter just kept looking at me not knowing what to do. I paid my bond, got my car out of impound and now im officially fingerprinted, photo'ed etc... Where are the real criminals??? We have spent countless lives and dollars looking for the taliban. When we should be tending to make sure we dont let our government turn into a rouge corrupt regime. This used to be called double jepordy and used to be unconstitutional? PS I am a democrat who now doesnt give a shit who gets elected anymore. If I can leave Michigan I will.

Don't plead guilty to operating while suspended!

Anyone arrested for operating a car with a suspended driver license should NOT plead guilty or allow yourself to be convicted unless forced to. DO NOT just pay the ticket. You will be subject to a $1,000 additional fine under the Driver Responsibility Act. Instead, contact the court immediately. Due to the injustice of this Act, many judges are refusing to enter any convictions or even accept voluntary "guilty" pleas from motorists cited for operating under a suspension. You are very likely to find that your district-court judge will work with you to get around conviction under this Act. From posts, it sounds as though the Act is being misapplied by Treasury. Since the Act was amended, no driver responsibility fees should be charged for failure to produce proof of insurance, only for failure to have insurance in effect (for which the extra fine can be either $400 or $1,000, depending on what part of state law you're cited under).

    Observations

"I was pulled over for a taillight being out" No, the gestapo pulled you over for a tailight out hoping that you had had a few beers. This is so common all over our great socialist state. "I HAD MY SONS BABY SHOES DANGLING FROM MY MIRROR." Once again they were looking for that elusive drunk driver. I'll bet that they asked how much you have been drinking. "I was handcuffed in front of my son and daughter who were both panicking" This was probably because you were such a threat to society...(sarcasm) These idiots are on extreme power trips. Generally speaking they were the nerds in high school and now have some power. And they wonder why they get no respect. It's reeal hard to tell the good guys from the bad anymore. "Where are the real criminals??? " They are still out there but they tend to fight back. The normal folks don't pose any risk to the gestapo and if they happen to find a few at .08 or .09 they can ruin lives and get a little medal for their chest to make them feel so good about their pitiful little lives. Good Luck and get the heck out of there as quick as you can.

Does anyone know which states will give you a license even with a stupid suspension due to these stupid fees? Is that information available anywhere? I've been looking all over on-line. I can't wait to be out of this freaking inane state. Thank you for the info. and good luck to everyone.

    No License? You Can't Leave

In answer to the question about which states will issue you a driver license if your Michigan license is suspended (and cannot be reinstated until all fines, costs, assessments, reinstatement charges, and driver responsibility fees are paid), I suspect that there are none. Most, and possibly all, states require that your license be in good standing in your former home state before it is cancelled when they issue you a new one. So everyone subjected to driver responsibility fees will remain permanently in hock to Michigan regardless of where you live.

    Poverty tax

This law is a clear attack on the poor. People who can afford legal representation don't pay the DRF, they get the charges reduced to something not covered by the fees and pay the fines. Since the poor can't afford a lawyer, they get to pay the fee plus the fines. The law was intentionally written to victimize those least able to fight back. Our irresponsible legislature can't control their spending so they take money from people who are barely making it. Michigan has become a police state. We're all criminals until they stop you and you prove otherwise. Not the way the framers evisioned, I'd bet.

The dems biggest fear is that all the working folks will someday wake up and quit blindly voting for whoever the union bosses tell them to. Why do you think they keep telling you to hate the evil rich? Have you ever seen how much the union bosses spend when they go on their little "meetings" at black lake and other places?Do you think that it was a big corporation like the ones they taught you to hate that passed this stupid money grab of a law? Wake up and vote for people that believe in freedom.

    This is DUMB

How does anyone in this State that has the fee expect to live? Are the irrationally stupid in the capitol? Does Jennifer Granholm not understand what she has done to this state>? For example: I have a suspended license for taking a girl to the hospital that was in need for it, i was a full time College student and now i cant do anything at all. I have 1,663$ to pay before i can plus what i owe the court. It is SO ridiculous that i cant finish my degree and what not so i can live my life. Right now i cant even work anywheres because i cant drive and im getting unemployment that i shouldnt be getting because i should have a good job at a hospital by now. But I cant go anywheres or do shit now period cause of this crap. Im about ready to have a dispute on the capitol steps to get the bill lifted..... WHOS"S WITH ME?????

    Colorado

In reply to the person asking which state will give you a license, I think someone on here left for Colorado. They might give you one if it's suspended here. But the best way to avoid the police is to register your license plate under someone elses name. Spouse/relative

broke ;hungry; Pissed Off and looking for a new state to call home

completely READY; We need to get seriously vocal about this crap. this isn't causing the rich any problems and they are the ones making the bills. So it wont change till they cant stand to hear about it any longer( or someone gets seriously pissed and does something stupid). I heard that over one hundred million was made off this program this year alone ; that should tell you THEY wont change till WE make them. Looks to me like they are trying to run the under class out of the state. First you get a ticket and fine ,then it goes to the state and you are charged twice more(didn't think it was legal to be charged for the same crime twice!). If you cant afford to make the payments your license is suspended. Lose your license and you will most likely lose your job! lose your job and you will probably lose your home. Lose your home and what do you do ; you probably move to a residence you can afford! You lose your home and the bank usually gets it (not to mention all the foreclosures).Your home is now sold to a contractor who flips it and someone who can afford to buy it does.Chances are the house is worth more now than when you owned it and so will the whole neighborhood as more and more are pushed out so the the rich can come in and make more money. TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT DETROIT. neighborhoods of people are being displaced so that the Corps and contractors can come in and flip our city. LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD STOP RAPING THE PEOPLE!

dems and reps ; good cop bad cop

you seriously think there is a right vote. It called good cop ; bad cop they work together in a ebb and flow manner. Its called shocking. the public is pushed to its limit to see where that limit is and then just before all hell breaks lose the reigns are loosened and life returns to the norm. Seems to be this government is Broken and hasn't been For The People in a long Time. Sure voting might help , but did you know that Obama is Cheney's cousin? Its always been a family and always will. Broken! So as I see it the flow is on as soon as this bumbling idiot leaves office.and all of a sudden the US will try like the dickens to get the world to like us again.have you been outside the country? Americans are looked at as scum all over the world; I am guessing it has something to do will our world policies and the fact that we have been playing this good guy bad guy act for as long as the US has been a country. "Americans are looked at as scum all over the world; I am guessing it has something to do will our world policies and the fact that we have been playing this good guy bad guy act for as long as the US has been a country." The vast majority of the world likes us. You are wrong. Which of our policies makes them hate us? Maybe it's feeding starving people in africa, that would sure make me mad as hell. Maybe it's vacinating children all over the world? That is truly evil. The only ones that don't like us are the ones that want to kill us and I really don't care about them.

    keep readin the local news

seriously; you must watch a lot of tv to believe that . Have you ever been outside the country? Just because this country doesn't sanction another doesn't mean the other country likes us . Could be they just would rather not have a coupe on their hands . Not only did this country provide food for africa they also bombed the hell out of it and took a major oil port. This new front in the US “war on terror” is unfolding free from any scrutiny by the world’s media. Apart from a few brief reports, there has been an almost total news blackout on the event. Since the US-backed Ethiopian invasion of Somalia in December last year( 06 I believe ) very little news has filtered out from the region. It has become an area in which the US military can operate with impunity. The new tactic is an attempt to maintain and extend US control over Africa resources, especially oil. It is a response in particular to the growing influence of China in Africa. Chinese companies are exploring and developing oilfields all over the continent, including the Horn of Africa. This country has no Allies only interests in World Resources!!!

Sry I have actually traveled to Germany , Austria, Switzerland , Russia , and South Korea. For some reason I would be willing to bet you have never left this country for even a single day (Canada and Mexico don't count). so having said this my info does not come from the news , but real life as I have spent one month in each of those countries. The Japanese are a great example; they Love our products and our people but if you sit and have a conversation with some Japanese people most will tell you they are very weary of our government. This is repeated all over the globe. Talk to the People . Not representatives of the people, hence their governing body. Most Governments will talk kindly of the US as they could easily be sanctioned (because this is the most powerful country on God's not so Green Earth). Think for yourself and might I suggest ; Stop watching the Turner Broadcast agency.and all the hype they perpetuate!
