    Excellent Post except

you said "The rich getting richer and the poor getting railroaded and poorer." It ain't the rich that are screwing us, it's the power hungry money sucking ever growing out of control government. Lets get that petition up and running. Good Luck. And if anyone doesn't believe that we are in a police state show up at any court house on ticket day. Get there early or you won't get a parking spot. It looks like a gas station giving away free gas. In a half hour yesterday I watched one little city take in about $70,000 bucks from good decent folks just like you. Then jenny whacks them with these stupid illegal fees. Unbelievable.

    *sigh*

I found this site while looking to see if this fine was arguable. I'm, 20 years old, and I was driving without my proof of insurance. Thats right, I made a mistake. Whatever, I accept responsibility for that, and I paid that 240-some dollar ticket. The other day I get this notice in the mail, and i am livid. Another 200 dollars. Where is rent coming from??? This is the first and only ticket I have ever gotten, my record is clean, i am a 4.0 student and I do bible study with Senior Citizens. I pay my bills even though I am broke all the time and am unable to go out and have fun, so dont tell me about responsibility. This *IS* double jepardy and it is rediculous. Take a good look guys, its the communist manifesto brought back, congratulations we live in tyrany. If you think this is just in Michigan open your eyes, Michigan is just the first domino in a long line.

    Welfare and proud

this law has nothing to do with taxes, do you even know what you are writing about. The subject of the post is about the driver responsibility law and your talking about how democrats raise taxes. Your either stupid or high, and if your high on anything good please share

    Mr Idiot

you think that taxing the People of Michigan until they can no longer drive is the right thing to do ? I think you are very stupid you don't think before you speak ,you ever even thought about this ? There will be 10s of thousands of people on your Public Highway Now Driving Illegally and that also means probably without Insurance in some old un Safe piece of junk car so if they get caught again they wont lose a good Car(impound)and what about the person that will RUN high speed chase(thats not dangerous to you Mr Idiot?)they have nothing to lose ,to them they have to drive and will. I dont think you have thought about this in any detail ,TRY Thinking!

    Thank You Michigan!

I realize I broke the law when I let my insurance lapse while I was going through a very rough financial period. I paid my fines, and struggled to pay for insurance and a sick child. Then on top of it I recieved another fine for $400.00 dollars. I was so outraged it prompted me to go job hunting across the boarder in Indiana. I found a great oppritunity. I am now making more money, paying less taxes, and live in a better economy. If it wasn't for the wonderful Michigan Legislators who voted for this bill I would still be here. Congradulations on collecting my $400.00, and I'm sorry you'll be missing out on thousands of future tax dollars.

    bitter / jaded / scared

2003 - first offence oui - fines over 1500 - paid - community service - served - lawyer fees - paid. - guilty. the small business i had worked for over 7 years went out of business after 123 yrs. in business, but that's typical here. i had some beers with my former boss on a beautiful day after we closed, and on the way home i was stopped. the officer was doing his job - i was guilty. now the d.r.f.- 1000.00 yr. for 2 yrs.- got job w / manpower. could'nt make payments on time - suspended. pulled over on way home from work. told i was followed because i looked shady! ticket. - did not want to loose new job. - drove to work next day. different route. scared.- pulled over. - long story short - paid over 5000.00 so far. - still paying. i now have a good job at a business similar to the one i originally lost. have been making my installment agreement per mo. dilligently. received a letter recently that i owed 3100.00 now! after 40 min. waiting on the phone to talk to someone i was told that i missed my chance to set up a new agreement for this year. my account will go to a third party collection and i'm not guaranteed that my license won't be suspended if i don't pay the full balance! GIVE ME A BREAK !!! i have a loving family - i've had a great driving record until this mess. double jeopardy / taxes / unconstitutional. whatever... it's really scary!

Our legislatures are way to busy making sex offended laws than to fix any other real problems that are destroying Michigan. Protect the children, give me a break what about the four million poor kids that are about to lose health care because we have to spend the money on a war because we wont talk to our enemies. Remember that we get the government that we desreve!

    To THE Jerk

I love the John Q. Trustfund guy on here. His only reason for responding to posts is to belittle people who are, in fact, just venting about an absolutely ridiculous and unconstitutional law. Mostly, he's belittling people who've got very little, work hard for very little, and get very little in return. People just trying to live their life the best way they know how. These people aren't hurting anyone or anything. With that being said: We know all about you too. We know you were picked last in gym class, never made the baseball team, got laughed at when you asked a girl to prom, and went to the science fair during your senior year spring break. We know you didn't go out in college, cause all you ever did was school work so you could "get back" at all the people who put you down later on in life. The truth of the matter is that you have zero backbone. You've never been able to do anything that someone didn't spell out for you. You've failed to have any sort of ingenuity or originality. You're a neophyte. A nothing. And the reality of your ignorance is truly represented every time you post on here.

I imagine the anger you express comes from the fact that you have only about 1/2 inch to be proud of. It has probably made you what you are today, A Loser.

I agree, Many that I know are tired of this state and their tactics to raise money that target the poor. Our lovely Governor IS the THIRD highest paid in the country, what is WRONG with this picture folks? We have the Driver's Resp. Fee (dbl jeopardy is right), new raised income taxes, new taxes imposed on services. What next, "poor man's tax"... I Among MANY folks/families are indeed ready to leave this not so wonderful state. This is a Shame. Our Governor should feel embarrassed, I wonder how she and the other overpaid's in positions of authority can even face themselves in the mirror. I could not.

    Wosrst State In The Union

Michigan is the worst economic, highest taxed state in the Union. I would rather live in mud water arkansas than that dump. Good luck Michiganders, you're gonna need it. I see a mass defection there. Perhaps the state can generate more revenue after everyone has left becoming the largest nuclear waste dump on the plant!

    Time to go

I agree 100%. I used to be proud to say I was from Mich. but now no way. My kids are in there 20's and I told them last year that although there mother and I will miss them, they need to get out of Mich. for a better future and we will visit. They did go out west and our so happy they did. We visit and what a relief to get out of this state for a while. Can't wait till our turn.

you go talk to the islamofacists and let me know how that works out for you. Better stop at burkas are us on the way. As for the children, what about the 3000 families that lost mothers and fathers on 911? If the politicians here were doing something about that I would be happier but they seem more interested in sucking the last life out of the public teat.

you gotta be a fool to stay......

first off, f&*k the state of michigan, f&*k them dead in their ear! maybe then they will listen. This law has hurt more people than anyone will ever realize. I moved to arizona over 2 years ago. Relinquished my state citizenship by obtaining an Arizona state id, and yes i said state id, because michigan stole my driving privileges, flat out stole them, but on to my point. I am a resident of the state of arizona, registered to vote here, have an address and bills coming to my house in my name, so id say i have pretty much established residency here. But for some odd reason i am still required to pay a reinstatment fee to a state that i no longer live in, and that i will not be renewing my license in. My license is suspended currently in the state of michigan for failure to pay my driver responsibility fee. Mind you, i have never had a dui, possession of drugs, an accident, a speeding ticket, reckless driving, none of em. I got hit for a seatbelt ticket and no proof of insurance. i had insurance and showed proof to the court yet i still have to pay a d.r.f. regardless of the fact that i was not guilty. My license has been suspended for going on 3 years now, and will probably remain suspended for some time because i have refused and will continue to refuse to let this state rip me off. I am half tempted to come back to michigan and get residency back, and file for welfare. Once i get said welfare i will promptly move back to arizona and obtain student residency, which is effectively dual residency in both michigan and arizona. Then i just sit and collect all my michigan welfare checks and reside in the beautiful sunny state of arizona. Lets see how the lawmakers react when i send them an itemized breakdown of how much money i have bilked from them over the years in welfare. I bet their tunes would change when they see that just because they got greedy and wanted to flat out rip off the residents of the state of michigan, that a citizen figured out a way to get over on them and reap 40 or 50 thousand dollars in welfare, all because they wanted to steal 1000 dollars from me. i bet they would shove their heads up their own rose smelling asses. So i say once again, F&*K MICHIGAN, F&*K THEM IN THEIR DAMNED EAR!!!!

Driver Responsibilty Fee VICTIM in Niles, Michigan

I am a single mother of two daughters. My drivers license in Michigan has been suspended since Feb: 2005 for the responsibility fee.I owe $2800.00 . I can not stand this state any longer. It is now apparently us as citizens who are to blame for this states debt. How in the world did Granholm get in office anyways? She doesn't care about us as citizens having to drive. All she cares about is money, money, money, pay, pay, pay. No wonder everyone including myself is moving from this unconstitutional "State of Granholm"

I already left this terrible state..

And I'm so glad I did. Moving out of Michigan was the best thing I ever did. The econonmy there is HORRIBLE and on top of it the state legislation doesn't care about it's citizens AT ALL. Those of you thinking of moving out of the state JUST DO IT. I had to leave my entire family but they followed suit and moved out shortly after I did. They all have better jobs, a higher salary and live in a state with a stable economy.

    granholm's law?

Governor Granholm did not put the responsibility fee into play by herself...Check out the vote...this fee was put into action by the republican majorities in our state house. My family is suffering just like all of you. I have two sons without DL's, tons of fees to be paid and no money to do it. Granholm doesn't run the state by herself...What about federal pressure through the use of funding (by the bush adm.) forcing MI to implement this horrific bill?

    Not even a lawful resident!

I moved away from MI when i was 15 and moved back in 2003 to be near my family, and within days had gotten pulled over for speeding by an officer who made(makes? I don't know, been awhile) a habit of pulling people over who are fully within the speed limit on a certain set of curves for speeding, citing the speed limit as far lower than it actually is there. Long story short, i received several tickets, did some jail time paid for a lawyer, everything's paid and dandy, and I'm back in MO. Now, my license had been suspended for some time in MO because of the way things work down here, I thought I was going home and getting away from the corruption and BS! Little did I know! It takes 90 days of living in a state to legally be a resident..and yet WHILE i WAS IN JAIL, which legally does not count towards residency, I passed that three month mark..I never left jail in the state of MI, I was brought back to MO for a case that had been brought back up after being dismissed, extradited, never left custody, even..and when i got out of jail down here went to get my license back, free and clear, only to find out about the existence of this driver responsibility nonsense and that I, a legal resident of ANOTHER STATE AT ALL POINTS, BEFORE GETTING THE TICKETS, WHEN i GOT THE TICKETS, AND AFTER I GOT THE TICKETS, had my license suspended by MI, owed them all this money that I knew nothing about because the letters were sent to my grandparents' house I was staying at at the time, and even owe a reinstatement fee to a state I wasn't a resident of since 7 YEARS BEFORE I GOT THE TICKETS..WHICH WAS LITERALLY DAYS AFTER THIS ACT WAS ESTABLISHED INTO LAW! So here I sit, without a license, sick off and on all winter, trying to go through college and work to make myself a better future for my family, while not being able to get to any decent job, getting sick all the time by having to walk everywhere in ever changing, often deadly weather, all because a state I wasn't even a resident of is greedy as f%$k saying I owe them twice more for tickets I already paid for both financially and with time from my life away from my family! I was proud to say I grew up in MI until all this, I wanted to be back home, now..I refuse to ever set foot in the state again.

Angry About The Driver Responsibility Fee

How can we be penalized twice for the same traffic offense? My husband was driving without his proof of insurance. We pay our extremely high insurance rates in Detroit faithfully. In the midst of our busy lives he also neglected to bring proof of insurance to court. I originally intended to simply pay the fine, but when I went to make arrangements, we did not qualify because the fine amount was lower than $500. Well, $200 due within 30 days for a family of 7 can be a hardship. How dare the State of Michigan benefit financially in this manner when my kids went the first three months of the school year without books? Why should I give the State my money, when my kids can't get something as basic as books in this supposed "No Child Left Behind" state-nation we live in? Where is the justice in this????????

It doesn't make much sense to complain about "FEES" and then say its not her fault...now does it? IT IS HER FAULT. SHE'LL NEVER HAVE TO PAY A DRIVER RESPONSIBILTY FEE.

Granholm doesn't care that we are out here everyday suffering because of this law. You go Niles. Granholm will never have to pay a responsibilty fee, nor will she ever endure hardship. Have to beg for a ride because her license is suspended. Have her vehicle towed. or, sit in jail for a driving while license suspended ticket. Get her out of there. ASAP
