    GOOD

This will support protection of a resource that potentially could bring $$$ into the Michigan economy.

Government would get just a little bit fatter. Economic improvement can be done far more effectively with some serious hacking and slashing on government and taxes.

Just one more way for them to spend tax dollars. With everything happening in this state (or not happening) where are their priorities?

    Makes Sense

The only people who would not support this legislation are people who have not read it and have misconceptions about what it does or current members of the Michigan Underwater Preserve Council who are afraid of losing their positions. With absolutely no negetive fiscal impact on the state, Sheltrown and McManus have found a way to promote scuba diving in Michigan beyond the simple booths at dive shows.

"The only people who would not support this legislation are people who have not read it and" No, we just don't want the government getting fatter and spending more of our money. People are free to scuba-dive till they're blue in the face without Lansing's meddling. [did I get em all?]

Is there a particular reason why the citizens of Michigan are allowing the communists to dictate social policy at all levels? The tobacco tax itself is a violation of the U. S. Constitution at several levels, but most clearly in violation of Article I, Section 9, Clause 5 and Section 10, Clause 2. In addition, the State of Michigan levies a 6% sales tax on the cost of a pack of cigarettes, the federal tax and state sin-tax. We may be a nation of laws; not men – but who writes the laws? No one has the capacity or authority to legislate morality, but it is most certain anyone is capable of legislating immorality.

If the bottom of the Great Lakes becomes a state park, will bouncing bait off the bottom while trolling for Lake Trout, etc, be outlawed? How about putting down an anchor? Will that be taboo? Shall we be required to pay a 'user fee' to access the new Great Lakes State Park waters? The key here is that government is attempting to get control of all water resources and this legislation is a ruse to do so. Control the bottom and you control what's over it and under it, including gas and oil... Could this legislation be part of the ground work for the coming "Heart of the Continent" bi-national park (Canada-USA, particularly the entire Upper Peninsula of Michigan)ala the "Wildlands Project"? You betcha!

This is just another "Foot in the Door" for the communist demonRats to add another TAX to users of the Great Lakes. As soon as its named a "Park" the RATS will demand Fishermen buy a stupid park sticker to use the lakes. I have NEWS for Grandmole and her Rat minions, sportsmen are sick of your taxes, fees, and stupid ideas!

You can be sure that the state intrusion in this case will not end with a simple committee recommendation. It will balloon, as it always does. Just like the income tax that was promised to impact "only the richest 1 percent" when imposed early last cenury.

Just what we need, another State Park and more control over the use of the water and the beaches. Another revenue source it will be for sure - permits to enter, permits to put in the boat, permits to fish (oh yeah we already have that one) permits to park the car.....could be a real money machine! Most importantly, it dovetails so nicely with the Wildlands Project.

    beach front

The big picture is the state is trying to confiscate the property (anything below the illegally established OHWM) from current beach front property owners. The state has claimed any land lying below the OHWM are bottom lands of the great lakes. Therefore any exposed property, land, beach front due to the lake levels being lower, are now new bottom lands of the great lakes creating (you guessed it) a new state park system by stolen property. Be very careful of these bills.
