    i've seen it happen.

i have been the reporting officer on three different decapitations. seat belts did it every time. it wasn't even a toss-up with any other causes. i am all for 'five point harnesses' in cars. they could be put in very effectively, and amazingly cheaply. they would ACTUALLY SAVE LIVES by restraining drivers and passengers where they should be, in the seat, WITH THEIR HEAD STILL ATTACHED. some new cars in japan, those for 'strictly the japanese market' have five point harnesses. bmw puts them in some of their top end cars in europe, but NOT HERE. ferarri puts them in their top end cars in europe, but not for the united states market. why don't we use the safest seatbelts known? the same reason we don't use ANY seatbelts. WE DON'T WANT TO.

    Ignorance Is The Problem

You Say.. "We are the first Democracy and a living experiment" You Couldn't be more wrong. We are not a democracy, never was and was never meant to be. The problem is that ignorance is letting us slip that way. Democracy is just mob rule. In your democracy once any group gets to 51% of the population they can vote to exterminate all the rest. Maybe they will be kind and just bleed us of all our money through taxes, fees etc. Oh, wait, that's what the dems/libs/socialists are doing now. Do yourself a favor and look up "constitutional republic" Democracy is four wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner. Robert A. Heinlein "Government Big Enough To Supply Everything You Need Is Big Enough To Take Everything You Have" --Thomas Jefferson Freedom cannot survive the number of Americans who think that the government is there to take care of them. -- Neal Boortz "The more numerous the laws, the more corrupt the government." -- Tacitus (100 AD). Man is not free unless government is limited ... As government expands, liberty contracts. --Ronald Reagan And Some Real Scary Ones... "We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans. . . ." -- Bill Clinton, 1993. "The purpose of government is to rein in the rights of the people." -- Bill Clinton, 1998. "Our problem today is too little government." -- Congressman Barney Frank (D-Mass.), Boston Globe, March 14, 2004.

    Only the first step!

Booster seats are fine, but cars are still deathtraps for our precious young ones! I propose the following regulations for future safety mandates: 1) padded body armor 2) 5 point safety belts 3) lowering the speed limit on ALL Michigan roads to no greater than 35 mph (this is perhaps the most important) 4) mandatory helmet laws for all occupants of automobiles 5) increase safety regulations on the auto industry mandating titanium "tubs" for all autos, similar to the A-10 Warthogs our brave pilots fly into combat. This may "slightly" increase the cost of these autos, but it's a small price to pay, in my opinion! 6) hypo-alergenic perforated (for enhanced airflow) "bean" bags/ cushions. similar to airbags, but always deployed. The concept is simple. If we pack our fragile fine antiques in secure bubble wrap when shipping them, why would we not endeavor to do the same with our infinitely more irreplaceable children!? We can do it Michigan!

    Excellent Post

But I think that the speed should be lowered to about 25 with the death penalty for anyone exceeding it by more than 5 mph. After all, it's "for the children". How can anyone be against that? You would have to be a child hater to be against something like this.
