    non-target

what was the definition of non-target. does this refer to protected species, domestic animals or other non-protected fur bearing animals
  • 03-05-2008 5:49 PM In reply to

    traps do not equal torture

Most do not hurt the animal if the traps are checked regularly. You can put your hand in most any trap and it doesn't hurt (I've been caught in 330 conibears before and no big deal). The trappers who comment here can speak to that. Unless the trap is designed to kill immediately traps are made to hold not crush bones. If you crush the bone then the animal can escape and this is not good for business

    demographics

I would just be curious to see how people who support this bill live in urban areas and have little knowledge of animals other than those at the zoo or thier pet cat.

    socialist?

Socialism has nothing to do with trapping. I am in favor of soicalism and have trapped since i was three.
  • 03-05-2008 6:09 PM In reply to

    obviously you are

in favor of socialism. you live in michigan.

    Demographics

The suggestion is that only people that live in rural areas have the sense to decide right from wrong?
  • 03-09-2008 11:00 AM In reply to

    Non target

The term refers to animals that were not intended to be trapped by the trapper. This includes protected animals even if the trapper intended to trap them.

Are you suggesting that all trappers are republicans?
  • 03-09-2008 11:09 AM In reply to

    babies being killed

The suggestion is that democrats don't care about babies? Would you have me believe that this is the way most trappers think?
  • 03-09-2008 11:14 AM In reply to

    NOT an accepted practice

How often are you required to check traps in the U.P. and how long does it take for an animal to chew its leg off. Also, have you ever gone over the speed limit while driving?
  • 03-09-2008 3:08 PM In reply to

    what does that have to

do with trapping? state law says you will check your traps once a day. this is to eliminate 'wring-off'. i'll bet you drive over the speed limit all the time. by the way, do you use mousetraps, or poison?
  • 03-12-2008 6:01 PM In reply to

    Seriously?

What, so a person can't care about both things? This is a discussion about trapping animals. We can talk about babies being killed in the designated baby discussion area. Get a clue.
  • 03-12-2008 6:05 PM In reply to

Wow! You are a smart one.

Wow! You are sharp. Wait a sec, no you're not... Mouse and rat traps are designed to kill mice and rats instantly, unlike the leghold traps that have been known to hold animals in excruciating pain for days and days on end. Also, I don't know about you, but I don't have lynx, bobcats, etcetera pooping all over inside my garage and chewing up my stuff. Maybe you should do your research before opening your big, toothless, backwoods, hillbillie mouth.
  • 03-12-2008 6:22 PM In reply to

    Ty it...

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is? If traps aren't inhumane then why don't you stick your leg or arm into one. If it doesn't hurt then we'll never bring it up again. Oh, one other thing, while you're at it, leave it on for a couple of days and see how it feels. Yeah, that's what I thought, pussy.
  • 03-12-2008 7:03 PM In reply to

    Try out a trap...

Go stick your leg in a trap and see how humane it is. Idiot.
  • 03-13-2008 12:55 PM In reply to

    Ban 'em

Leg hold traps are a medieval throwback. Let's get rid of them. If you really feel the need to kill nuisance animals, live trap them, then shoot them in the head. At least they won't have to be tortured. BTW, I live in a very rural area and have to deal with nuisance animals on a daily basis.
  • 03-13-2008 9:00 PM In reply to

    mouse traps are

a mideaval throwback... yet you have no problems using them. why the extraordinary love of big-eyed animals?
  • 03-14-2008 4:54 PM In reply to

    Says who?

I do not use spring mouse traps. I live trap them and release them miles away in a nice open meadow. They are very easy to live trap. they are not too bright. Sometimes my cat or dog kills them, but that can hardly be helped.
  • 03-17-2008 9:57 AM In reply to

    trapperone

You have to live in the city with all the rats and coons and other filthy animale that make big messes and distroy everthing. Coons are a huge problem in the country after the animal do gooders stopped fur sales. If you don't trap them thay will take over and die from desieze and it will take them a lot longer to die that way.Have you ever sean a coon or fox with no fur on it and running around into everthing,Well it's sad. I wouldn't want to die that way,put my leg in a trap so i can die all at onnce.
  • 03-18-2008 11:19 AM In reply to

    But why Leg Hold?

Witnessing an animal die in a long drawn-out manner is always sad. Leghold, steel-jaw traps are one of the methods of providing that long painful death. Why would we want to continue that when there are other methods of animal control that are more humane?
  • 03-18-2008 7:55 PM In reply to

    why are animals

more important than people? you don't mind children suffering and dying at the hands of abortionists, up to and including during normal delivery, but you totally abhore animals 'suffering' in traps.
  • 03-27-2008 9:42 AM In reply to

    coolclearwater

To bring up the subject of abortion while discussing cruel leg-hold traps, is just an attempt to change the subject(which occurs often while discussing animal abuse & is part of the reason they are so abused today.) Always the general idea is that people are far superior to animals & that animals should continue to be abused & the focus directed to people"s problems as animals are seen as inferior to people. That unaborted baby, unless its a vegetarian, will be responsible for the deaths of thousands of animals in its lifetime & just may grow up & set a leg-hold trap one day.I agree abortions are cruel, but animals in traps suffer more than the aborted baby does.
  • 03-28-2008 6:12 AM In reply to

    so, how many animal

deaths have YOU been responsible for? how many cows bit the dust because you needed shoes? how many chickens? how many eggs? how many pigs? how many sheep because you needed wool socks? (they only live for so long, and thousands are needed to provide the world's wool 'needs'. SOMETHING has to be done with them when they die. what do you suggest? a christian burial?) do you believe that you are superior to animals? if not, why aren't animals speaking up for themselves? your personal prejudice against trapping, hunting, and apparently, eating meat in general stems from a decidely liberal leftist upbringing punctuated by some amazingly wacky influences. now, how many cotton plants gave their lives so you could wear 'eco-friendly' clothing? how much hemp went the way of the dodo so you could have your hemp jewelry and perhaps a relaxing smoke at the end of a long day protesting? i'm sure you think it's well within YOUR rights to control others, liberals often do. i'm also sure that you hate it when other liberals do it to you, especially in ways you disagree with. if you are against trapping, don't trap. if you are FOR abortions, go out and have all you like. human beings ARE superior, we have been to the moon, dolphins haven't. we have conquered the sound barrier, bats haven't. we have invented automobiles, bears haven't. we have written and can read. no other animals can. if you don't think that YOU are superior to animals, then stay at home and mope. myself, i'm going to trap myself some nice soft animals and make myself a nice warm coat. then i'm going to have myself a burger and a beer.
  • 04-01-2008 8:53 AM In reply to

    Controlling others?

I don't want to control any of you who think these things are ok. I don't even want to know you. If they are such a nuisance to you in the country, get the f&^* out of the country. They were there before you. You might learn something by interacting with a few non-rednecks from time to time.

    Pat Foster

I agree with you entirely about not using poison to kill mice and rats. I have one observation about leg trapping. One day I was sitting in the winter looking down my frozen channel and I saw four coyotes walking my way on the ice. As they passed, only one had all four legs. The other three were walking on three legs. I'm against leg trapping.
  • 04-13-2008 8:33 PM In reply to

    but you have nothing

against michiganders shooting them on sight? that's why we don't have that many coyotes here today. by the way, coyotes get caught in traps because they try to eat the animals caught in the traps. they destroy more than they 'preserve'. they kill livestock, and pets, and if given half a chance, people. other than 'eater or carrion', and 'provider of fur' they serve no other useful purpose. and by the way, i doubt you saw FOUR of them at once. they usually travel alone.

    Headshaker

A leghold trap enthusiast says this: “by the way, coyotes get caught in traps because they try to eat the animals caught in the traps.” So, you are saying that the trap that already has caught something (been sprung) somehow miraculously reopens itself and grabs the coyote? What part of La-La Land do you hail from, anyway?
