    Cormorant Control

These birds must be controlled in order to maintain a fishery. We control all other types of game and some non-game. We need to work with the feds and create a regular control season as each different area of the state needs to decrease the numbers of cormorants. They simply move from area to area wiping out the fish. After we determine they need controlled, it will be easy to have sportsmen assist in the management of the Cormorant population

This bill (HB4471) needs to be supported to offset a severe imbalance to several resources within the Great Lakes region. The methods are not the issue, the reduction of the population by at least SB 354 and maintaining that new level to measure the effect on the conditions. If that's not enough, reduce further in 5 years.

Support of 07' House Bill 4471

I want to post my support for the 2007 House Bill 4471 (Authorize cormorant control program). The cormorant problem in the Great lakes is out of control. It is very important that this issue is communicated and efforts are taken to bring this problem under control before it is too late.

    cormorants are NOT

good to eat, even by CAJUN standards. a good cajun will eat almost anything that doesn't eat him first, and SOME things that will. no cajun i know of will willingly eat a cormorant. even the gators don't like the taste.

Last duck season my father and i watched a group of cormorant that had to be 500 yards long. We were amazed at the number of birds in this group that were swarming in after the fish. Something needs to be done with the numbers of these birds.

    Cormorant Control

Everyone talks about protecting the future for our children, then politicians ignore the future and allow our wildlife and habitat to be wiped out to "balance the budget". They "talk the talk" but can't "walk the walk". You want to protect the future for our children, control harmful animals like the cormorant. Control what these ocean vessels are doing to our Great Lakes. Use your heads Lansing! Stop the insanity! Robert Nawrocki Metro-West Steelheaders Huron Valley Steelheaders Flint Steelheaders Father

    Double Crested Cormorant

The double crested cormorant situation in the Great Lakes is out of control. Our Great Lakes fisheries depend on this predator being controlled. Please include funding to properly control this past and future devestation of our Great Lakes.

Please support the control of this specie. Effective game management requires controlling predator populations from time to time.

    Cormorant Control

I support this bill 100%. Please pass legislation in order to provide funding for control of this destructive species. Not only does our sport of fishing suffer if we do not, our economy will continue to suffer as well from lost revenue. The Great Lakes are a wonderful place, please let's keep them that way.

Don't let the cormorant bird population continue to destroy our fisheries. You are elected to reflect the populus you represent. I, for one, urge you to see that effective control legislation be enacted. Thanking you kindly, Allan J. Van Brocklin, Columbiaville, MI

    Cormorant control

These birds need control measures they have decimated the fish population here in upstate ny. The problem is so bad that several locals risked federal prison and had thier own control plan.It cost them thousands and they ended up felons because the government failed to address the problem.

Our Great Lakes are the most intriguing quality of the State of Michigan. They must be protected at all times. The fisheries are endangered by the Cormorant and are in need of protection. This attack can hurt our State and all who live here or visit here.

    2007 House Bill 4471

The cormorant situation in Michigan needs to be addressed. These birds are a serious threat to the sport fishery. This is a problem that we can control, unlike the invading species in ballast water. I am in strong support of this bill.

    Cormorant Control

Please take this issue seriously , it has a great impact on our fisheries and our Natural Resources. The 150,000 dollars in funding must be put back on the table for the D.N.R. to be able to properly do thier job. The Michigan Steelhead and Salmon Fishermans Associations 10000 members fully support controling these pests , we don't mean eliminate them all , we mean bring them back to a controlable number. The Flint River Valley Chapter of the Steelheaders have started a fund to help raise money for this project so we as Sportsmen have put OUR money where our mouth is , its time everyone else did the same. Fishing is a 5 to 6 BILLION dollar a year contribution to Michigans economy and we do need to protect it. It is your job as our reps. to not be clouded by the other B.S. and politics that go on here and make this a priortiy. Rick Balabon - President Michigan Steelheaders

Re: 2007 House Bill 4471 (Authorize cormorant control program )

I'd like to know more about this plan, what are their strategies and what are the expected outcomes? As a gardener I had a lot to do with these birds but eventually I was able to face them with natural solutions. You would be surprised but on a list of pest control products the lowest pest control prices are on natural products. I personally hope I won't have to deal with this problem again.
