    Bigoted in its intent

    This is a bill designed to discourage non-English speakers from relocating to Michigan. Please note the collection of co-sponsors: God-fearin' Christians, one and all, proudly saying NO to anyone and everyone who's different than them. Pathetic. Apparently, the Republican Party of Michigan has issues with Lady Liberty, diversity, inclusiveness, and basic human freedom.

    had no problems with immigrants, as long as they did what they had to do to become AMERICANS. that included learning the language, and holding allegience to america, and only america. hyphenated americans were not considered americans. freedom is not free. it is EARNED.

    American's speak English

    I have no problem with people comming to this USA. But this is America and we do have our own language. I would not attemmpt to make my home in another country with out being able to speak their language. What language they speak at their home's is their choice but in public the language is English. I feel like a second class citizen when I have to chose what language I would like to use on the phone or with any document I will be filling out. What happened to our country? America.

    the french don't have

    any sense of humor over those who would be french without SPEAKING french. there is very little translation in france, it's all in french. it may be arrogance, but it's what they do. we may be arrogant, but we speak english, immigrants have for two hundred years, and they should continue for the next two hundred.

    themselves, who are they going to speak to in their native tongue? does that mean WE have to learn THEIR language for THEM to live here? we didn't do this for the french, the germans, the poles, or the indians. who would you like us to START doing it for?

    If an American goes to Mexico do you think the mexican government will give us any respect? Its about time, if you come to this country or move to any other country then you have to learn the language.

    to expect that people who come to YOUR country, deal with YOUR government, who travel YOUR roads to speak YOUR language? i think it's idiotic to expect ME to pay for YOU allowing immigrants to come into this country and skate by without learning the language. learning english is a small price to pay for the benefits they recieve.

In one of the key founding documents they wrote and subscribed to this key statement: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed …” No, FREEDOM -- liberty – is not an earned right, at all. The Founders had it dead-on. Liberty is, according to fundamental American principles a natural right possessed by individuals. That does not mean that freedom is an easy thing to have and keep. The entire American struggle has been dedicated to asserting and protecting that natural right, and its companions, “Life” and “Pursuit of Happiness,” from government encroachment. I do not have a serious problem with proposals to make English an official language for conducting government business. That seems well within the bounds of government authority to do, in the interest of unifying the states as a nation. On the other hand, it may set an unhappy precedent for the time when those for whom English is not the native language achieve majority status and are thus able to impose their political will on the populace. In the end, perhaps this is the kind of legislation that should just die quietly in its sleep.

    "This is a bill designed to discourage non-English speakers from relocating to Michigan" This bill is designed to make them learn OUR langauge if they want to live here. We do business in OUR langauge. If I go to Mexico I sure as heck don't expect them to speak my langauge.

    equal to everyone else. you are FREE to become what you will. if you choose to STAY equal, instead of excelling beyond the 'norm' that's up to you. i don't consider myself the equal of any deviant. i consider myself far superior to him. choosing to be deviant is choosing to be wrong. just as wrong as if he chose to be a criminal. you are free to choose what you will be, but remember, you are also free to accept the consequences of your decision.

    liberty at the liberal altar of equality. that's what you are expected to do if you are a left leaning democrat. if you MUST be equal to someone, you either have to speed up to keep up with him (unacceptable to a liberal) or slow down to allow him to keep up with you (very acceptable to a liberal). why must we be equal? the liberals don't treat everyone equally, yet they trounce on anyone ELSE who doesn't treat everyone equally. the liberals don't hesitate to let their prejudices and discriminations show, yet they trounce on everyone else who has a prejudice or exercises a choice they don't agree with. liberals are for killing babies, but against killing heinous murderers. they SAY they are FOR gay rights, but in over 40 years of congressional control, and LONGER THAN THAT of state legislative control, they have YET to pass a single piece of pro gay union legislation. they have yet to pass a single piece of legislation that would allow gays to inherit from their 'life partners'. they have yet to pass a single piece of legislation that would 'equalize' homosexuals as a group, allowing them full rights and responsibilities as citizens. now, let's hear how PRO GAY you liberals REALLY ARE.
