    lead boxes

We ban lead based paints, but allow lunch boxes to have lead in them!? Doesn't make much sense does it!

    How Many

lunch boxes have lead paint on them? My guess is none. These guys need to get a life and stop with the "feel good, please the sheeple" type laws.

    Do Kids

that are old enough to be in school gnaw on their lunchboxes?
  • 03-08-2007 1:56 PM In reply to

    we did ban lead paint

and lunch boxes DON'T have lead on them. this is legislation that has no purpose other than to make some liberal FEEL GOOD that he/she has DONE SOMETHING to solve SOME PROBLEM THAT DOESN'T EXIST. how about solving the problems this state is suffering from now? i don't believe that lead is responsible for the huge pit we are in economically, unless jennie has been licking the paint job again. i don't believe that lead is responsible for the slew of misguided legislation that has ooozed from lansing this session, unless they too have been gnawing on their lead lined lunch-boxes. i don't believe that lead is responsible for the people voting as they do, unless all the pipes in metropolitain michigan are made of lead.

Great research question: How many lunch boxes have lead?

    Maybe the news should investigate.

    Bravo to our legislators

This is NOT to make a politician feel good about themselves! It is to pro- tect our children! The lead is inside of the lunchboxes where food that is inside for hours can come into contact with the vinyl (which has the lead!) If you read recent news reports you would see that the Consumer Product Safety Commision, according to info. found through the freedom of information act, manipulated its own test results! The FDA however, reacted differently. In the letter from the FDA it states, "The luchboxes containing lead compounds may be subject to enforcement action." It has also been found that even lunch- boxes labeled as safe may not be and that a swab test kit from your local hardware store can be used to test for lead. My child doesn't gnaw on her lunchbox,as a previous poster stated, but we did pack items like apples that came in direct contact with the liner of the lunchbox. The kids also touch these liner while getting their foods out and what kid isn't tempted to swipe that bit of jelly off of the inside of their lunchbox and eat it?! In closing I am glad that this is being addressed and that the previous posters don't work for me in Lansing!!!!!

    By the way...

I had also read that this is not just an issue with lunchboxes. It is most flexible vinyl products, even products for babies! No amount of lead is safe!
  • 03-21-2007 6:07 PM In reply to

    so, once again,

what are you going to do without products containing lead? no flexible vinyl, no lunchboxes. worse things than lead are used to make paper bags. no flexible vinyl, no interior to your vehicle. back to the old fashioned steel dashboard and wooden seats. then there is the list of other things that contain lead. your battery, your radio, all the electronics in your car, all the lightbulbs, some of which ALSO contain murcury. the list goes on.

    Lunchboxes?

Great to know that as jobs continue to leave this State that the Legislature is going to spend time on a problem that doesn't exist except in the products they exempt.

    Teach Your Kids
