    mcoles fit

I've seen some of those MCO's and you must be one that just came out of the school and still is in shape. Most of them are out of shape. Oh thats right you guys/gals don't have to stay in shape.

    No More

Agents of The Imperial State Government. We have more cops than we need already. These guys need to stick to counting truck wheels.

    No good

If we did that the newly-minted "cops" would immediately demand a raise. We can't afford that Better idea: Lets dump, oh, two-thirds of these seatbelt-ticket revenue collectors. I think we'd all survive just fine.

    PT Test

No one has an annual PT Test anymore. Too many people getting hurt off duty claiming they were getting ready for the PT test. No one has to stay in shape anymore. Some of us do it just for fun.

    PT test...

even the army is considering phasing out PT tests, simply due to the many soldiers who die taking it.

    MCO Certification

I fully believe that the house and senate should waive the wand and certify these officers. Motor Carrier Officers attend the majority of the State Police Academy and then are diverted to weights and measures rather than complete a couple more weeks in the academy. (pretty sneaky of those MSP troops) MCO's work on and off the freeway all over the state primarily focusing on Commercial Vehicle Law, however are also obligated to respond to emergency distress calls when needed. There is a history of MCO's arriving on emergency scenes substantially earlier than their "real" police counterparts. I have always observed MCO's to be fully professional in performance and appearance, as do most of MSP academy graduates (remember they are only a couple of weeks from being "real"). State law already obligates MCO's to arrest suspects of domestic violence, assault, drug law violations, drunk driving as well as other laws. They should be sworn and become just another division of the state police. In the times of terrorism and responding to disasters these officers then could also be pooled to respond along with other emergency response personnel. I am not a state employee however I have read and researched this legislation, training requirements and police authority. I am disappointed that the state has not done the right thing in the past. I view as I believe most citizens do that if I needed a police officer in an emergency I do not care if they are a couple of weeks shy of being in the Troopers union. In the mean time I appreciate the work that the MCO's do. Inspecting loads and vehicles and maintaining compliance. I can imagine that there is just as much threat if not more by stopping commercial vehicles.

    Too Many Cops Already

if we can afford to stand all these puppets in the road to look for somebody committing the terrible, heinous offense of not wearing a seat belt we have way too many cops and don't need any more.
  • 05-21-2007 10:18 AM In reply to

    You're Right

Most new cops today are the kids that were nerds in school and now have power. Not like the old days when you knew the local cops and everyone had respect for each other. It's real hard to respect a guy that mkes his living hiding in the bushes trying to increas revenue by stealing your money. Most older guys still have respect for cops until they have kids that drive or get caught up in the money web. Most cops can work more overtime if he harrasses enough citizens, sad, a free pass to steal your money and most of them don't even understand the police state that they are creating by being good little pawns.

    Diet

Like no other point in the history of our state, we need *less* government. Not more. This proposal would fatten the state by one more belt-notch.
  • 05-22-2007 8:04 PM In reply to

    Diet?

We are already here, and we aren't going anywhere even if this bill never gets out of committee. Do you even know anything about this legislation? Have you any understanding of the facts? Obviously not or you wouldn't be piping off half cocked.
  • 05-22-2007 9:40 PM In reply to

Means "eat less" (of our money). Not Japanese parliament

"Have you any understanding of the facts? Yes, of course. You guys get promoted, you get a raise and more pension, we get higher taxes and more seatbelt tickets. Sounds like a win-lose to me. Toss this one in the clink and throw away the key.
  • 05-25-2007 6:45 PM In reply to

    Bingo

That sound you just heard was the nail being hit on the head. Too many cops, too many useless laws. I say we make law enforcement like survivor. Each cop is evaluated by a groups of citizens (obviously they should be screened to keep out the crack dealers girfriends and what not) every month. The ones who give out tickets for seatbelts, helmets, pot for personal use later (obviously nothing involving current intoxication which could harm others) and other victimless nonsense would be summarily dismissed. Cops who aren't afraid to actually "serve and protect"; those who catch killers and rapists, those who actually show up when you call because your drunk neighbor is beating up his wife and kids again, those who investigate corruption in the private and PUBLIC (yes, politicians) sector would be rewarded by not only keeping their jobs another month, but maybe a nice steak dinner and tickets to a movie plus a $500 gas card and a cash bonus to be taken from the fired cops now available pay. We could lower the payroll and have a more effective police force if there were obvious rewards vs. punishments. And oh yeah, cops who are corrupt, especially to the point of an innocent friendly getting hurt? Immediate execution. On pay per view. And use the money to fix the stupid budget.

    Certify MSP Motor Carrier Officers

    We Don't Need

any more revenue agents prowling our streets. Since most of them do nothing but eat donuts and hide out with the radar gun to pounce on unsuspecting drivers they can lay them all off. It's getting to be hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys anymore.
  • 08-09-2007 6:56 PM In reply to

    Oops

"For a simple solution to instantly place 150 certified state police officers on the road at NO ADDITIONAL COST to taxpayers check out the link below." Except for the cost of the extra state fundraising that 150 more state revenue agents will extort from us. Don't forget about that cost. Oh, given their new status, and they'll probably want (and get) raises, too. I guess you didn't think your cunning plan all the way through.

only MCO's on this site support this...

Notice how He/She said WE are already here. Meaning they are an MCO. All the MCO's on here are rude as heck. As a tax payer were do you get off with such rude comments. Is it because you are off duty and think you can talk however. Or is this how you talk to people when you pull them over.

You HAVE to be an MCO or friends with one. Your post on here was spoon fed. NICE TRY. Focus needs to stay on the trucks. 150 MCO's will be running around stopping everything that moves as the truckers do as they please.

But I am sure your response will be you are a tax payer. Well I will be glad to give you your 23 cents for your state police protection that you pay a year.

    yes they would.

i WAS a cop, and i wouldn't work here. i've been pulled over too, FOR NOTHING. where i come from, that's ILLEGAL. but they do it here regularly.
  • 08-18-2007 3:03 PM In reply to

i was also in law enforcement.

and i have been pulled over at two thirty in the morning for no stated reason, other than to ask if i had been drinking. this is known as a violation of the 4th amendment, an UNLAWFUL SEARCH AND SEIZURE. in any other state, the 'victim', me, would have been a VERY RICH PERSON. this has happened TWICE, and i have threatened federal lawsuits if it happens again. i understand that there is a drinking and driving problem here, but violating the citizen's rights is NOT the way to solve it. each and every one of those officers took an oath to protect and defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. why aren't they? simply being on the road during 'bewitching hour' does not make you a drunk driver. in my case it made me a DESIGNATED DRIVER. i have given up that practice, as it got me pulled over TWICE FOR NOTHING. if the state is going to harass the public like everyone is drunk who is on the road at closing time, then why shouldn't the public ALL BE DRUNK? if we are going to DO THE TIME, we may as well DO THE CRIME.

michigan constitution,  article 1. Sec. 6.

Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state.

    pulled over for no reason

Liberal nut job, sue sue sue. My wife is an attorney and laughs her butt off of nut jobs like you that call wanting to sue for being stopped for "no good reason". Stopped at 2:30 am for rolling through a stop sign, crossing a fog line or center line or failing to dim headlights is a cue of OWI. If you do not work at this time you are no doubt tired and have no idea what you did. Don't be so innocent and ignorant. 22 years working midnights has shown me this. When I am stopped traveling at 2:30 am by the police, and am sober I am glad that they are out their attempting to make our roads safe. Grow up and get a life. If it were your child killed by a drunk you would be the first one to cry where were the cops.

    WAS a cop

and probably fired for incompetence, probably for not arresting any drunk drivers. Go back where you came from.
  • 08-25-2007 3:16 PM In reply to

    how many times were

you pulled over? each and every time they pulled you over FOR NOTHING, they violated YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. didn't your attorney wife ever tell you that? have you no idea what your constitutional rights are? obviously not. i've had times when i was glad the cops were there too, but being pulled over at 2:30 in the morning TWICE wasn't any of them. where i'm from, the cops have better things to do at 2:30 in the morning than HASSLE INNOCENT CITIZENS. 'crossing the fog line' is a TRUMPED UP sign of a drunk driver. i've seen that excuse used on dirt roads. and the courts here have allowed it. the problem is, the dirt roads don't have 'FOG LINES'. did you know that the number one sign of a drunk driver is driving at night without lights? it only works 25% of the time. that means that their best indicator only indicates what they are looking for in one out of four cases. having done the job, i learned to spot drunk drivers. 'crossing the fog line' had nothing to do with it. by the way, my success rate (conviction rate) was 98%. you keep saying that 'if i lost a child to a drunk driver i wouldn't say what i say'. i HAVE lost a child to a drunk driver, and i STILL say what i say. now, stop being STUPID about your rights and the propensity of the state to violate them. ask your attorney wife if she would like to make a few thousand dollars off of the state, suing the pants off of them. on second thought, don't. if she is as liberal as YOU are, she probably couldn't stand to see her beloved police force being called down for not doing it's job. i'm going to sue in FEDERAL COURT, by the way, so the influence of local judges does not come into play. the federal judges don't put up with that sort of thing. so far, just the threat of bringing in the feds has calmed a lot of that nonsense down. let's hope that the trend continues. stop trying to think for me. you really aren't very good at it.
  • 08-25-2007 3:35 PM In reply to

    hey lib.

if you enjoy having your rights violated so much, i'm sure that the police will have no problems violating them. i DON'T enjoy having MY rights violated. how are the police going to tell which of us is which? instead of just saying that everyone who is out on the road at 2:30 in the morning wants to have his rights violated, why don't YOU put a sticker on your car that says "violate my rights, it's okay with me." this sticker can be reflective and glow in the dark. this will identify you from me, that way they can leave me alone until i DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN DRIVE AT 2:30. because, unless your lawyer wife says different, there is NO LAW AGAINST DRIVING AT THAT TIME OF DAY. now, if i'm not FREE TO DRIVE THE ROADS ANYTIME I WANT TO, then I'M NOT FREE. this IS A FREE COUNTRY, ISN'T IT? obviously not. must i be enslaved by the state? don't cops have to ACTUALLY WORK FOR A LIVING? i know that the state is in dire need of money, what with all the new taxes and spending programs that jennie has instituted, but THEFT is still against the law. violation of my constitutional rights is STILL AGAINST THE LAW. what the cops are doing is called 'fishing'. it's ALSO AGAINST THE LAW. cops are there to ENFORCE THE LAW. who is making sure that THEY obey the law? certainly not you, and certainly not your 'officer of the court' wife. you feel that it's perfectly alright to violate the rights of the citizens. this is contrary to the oath your 'attorney wife' took when she applied to practice before the bar. she should be ashamed. so should you. or do you feel you are better than everyone else?

Do not use this site to flame, or even to advertise your site. We should not allow these officers to become "Advanced" unless they want to presue their career(s). We need the trucking officers, but.. wait wheres the interstates? DOWNSTATE! DROP the Upper Peninsula's and leave a few. What's the Upper Peninsula?!.. Hmm! It's the Upper Part of Michigan that EVERYONE FORGETS about!

After doing abit more of research, I can see I'm too harsh sometimes. We have ALOT of officers, but never where they should be.. I would support the bill however, what about the attention of the Truckers? will this be affected? AKA, will there still be as much attention directed where it should be? Will messing up the current system detour current law enforcement agencies even more?
  • 10-05-2007 2:13 PM In reply to

    our officers HAVE BEEN

DETOURED. they are so busy with stopping everyone on the road after 'closing time' to garner revenue from 'drunk drivers' (read that as anyone at all who has had any alcohol at all), and supporting revenue 'panzy schemes' like 'CLICK-IT-OR-TICKET' that very few will have time to actually ENFORCE THE REST OF THE LAWS. we don't need MORE police officers, we need police officers who don't have to 'earn their keep' twenty four hours a day. we already pay taxes to pay officers, they don't need to raise revenue to keep their jobs. law enforcement is A STATE EXPENSE. why is the state looking to PROFIT from law enforcement activities? perhaps because some corrupt politician has SPENT THE MONEY FOR THE COPS, and is looking to replace it without being caught with his hand in the cookie jar? perhaps we are simply afraid to look ourselves in the face and say 'this is what it costs to enforce the law'. if the tax money we pay isn't enough to foot the bills, maybe we need to cut funding for unnecessary programs that deprive citizens of their rights. let's get law enforcement back to enforcing the law, and not raising the revenue. it's not their job to raise money.
