as any post with which you disagree?
or perhaps any post which speaks the TRUTH from the conservative point of view?
are these the only posts you find offensive?
others here don't mind offensive language as long as it's coming from their side, the left, but not from the other.
the truth is something they find very morally offensive.

For years, I've called for the complete shutdown of America's massive archipelago of mandatory government youth propaganda camps. The defenders of this Largest Jobs Program in History shriek and bellow that I must be "against education," which is sort of like charging those who opposed slave galleys with being against ocean navigation.
Read de Tocqueville for his amazement at the high level of literacy -- including an ability to discuss complex political issues -- found among American workingmen of the 1830s -- 20 years before Dewey and Mann launched today's government-run youth camps on the Prussian model in Massachusetts in 1852.
The New York Times reported Feb. 27 that fewer than half of American teenagers know when the Civil War was fought, and one in four believe Columbus sailed to the New World some time after 1750. About a quarter of the teenagers were unable to correctly identify Hitler as Germany's chancellor in World War II, instead identifying him in a multiple-choice test as a munitions maker or premier of Austria.
Why is anyone surprised? The academic curriculum is the "cover," the "front." The real goal is not to ensure, but rather to ensure against successive generations developing a cohesive philosophy of self-sufficiency, a code of ethics appropriate to a free people living under a government of limited powers. The goal is to make sure successive generations are powerless to muster the historical and economic context, logic and critical thinking skills necessary to see through the latest scheme to seize yet more of our wealth and use the loot to hire more bureaucrats to regulate yet another portion of our lives, our industry, our commerce.
California's 2nd District Court of Appeal on Feb. 28 declared the parents of most of that state's 166,000 home-schooled children to be outlaws, ruling the law requires parents to send their children to full-time state-certified public or private schools or else have them taught at home by "credentialed" tutors -- which most home-school parents, presumably, aren't.
"California courts have held that ... parents do not have a constitutional right to homeschool their children," Justice H. Walter Croskey said in the 3-0 ruling, which makes it clear those parents can be criminally prosecuted for failing to comply.
And did Judge Croskey and his black-robed ruling-class pals say this was because the home-schoolers weren't doing as well at teaching reading, writing and 'rithmetic?
Of course not. They couldn't say that, because tests consistently shows home-school kids, taught by parents without state "certificates" or licenses, score 30 to 37 percentile points higher than their public school peers across all subjects.
So why ban home-schooling, if the academic results are far better?
Judge Croskey obligingly explained: "A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare."
Imagine that. "Loyalty to the state." Almost as if what they're running are, I don't know ... mandatory government youth propaganda camps, or something.

it is truly amazing that the wandering herd of trolls seems to have dried up when forced to be 'exposed to the sun' by logging on? i am against releasing inmates early because it SOLVES NOTHING. it only transfers what we have to spend on inmates to another department of government. if inmates WERE becoming productive citizens upon their release, i'd feel a lot better about that.
why don't the democrats work harder on that one?

Scroll back to the first page of this thread, and look at the very first entry. You will find a link to the bill's MichiganVotes summary and to the bill itself on the Legislature's web site. Current status of the bill is that it continues to lie in committee, where it has been without action since introduction in 2007.
Don't bother looking for information to extract from the pages of commentary in this topic thread. It is one of the most thoroughly trolled topics on this site.

Re: do you define offensive
please tell me why he shouldn't do his entire sentence?
1. was he sentenced far too harshly for the seriousness of the crime?
2. is the law that he broke written as a 'catch all' to simply fill the jails with warm bodies, and thus be a source of revenue for the state?
3. was he FACTUALLY INNOCENT but incarcerated anyway?
4.was the law that he broke written as an attempt by some legislator to DO SOMETHING, even though nothing really NEEDED TO BE DONE?
i give these choices because they represent REAL REASONS FOR REFORM, not just personal opinions. these are the things that i see wrong with michigan, and it's twisted system of laws, rules, and regulations.
it seems as though the "WINDMILL LEGISLATORS" will write anything into law as long as it makes them look like they are earning their paychecks.
crimes are crimes, none should be punished any more harshly than the sentencing guidelines require, and certainly should not have "added time" for being the crime of the month.
this silly notion that sex crimes are more heinous than murder is just that, a notion. this silly idea that 'profile crimes' and 'hate crimes' are to be sentenced more harshly is to lose sight of the rule of law.
what makes me laugh is the rantings of the liberals here that say that CERTAIN CRIMES should be punished most harshly, but SERIOUS CRIMES, like murder, should always be forgiven, no matter how heinous.
having your loved one in jail for a frivolous reason is bad, but simply letting him out WON'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM THAT GOT HIM THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
STOP LETTING THE LUNATIC LEFT THINK FOR YOU. ASK YOURSELF WHY THIS PERSON IS IN JAIL, IF THE ANSWER IS BECAUSE THEY DESERVE IT THEN YOU NEED TO LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR A CAUSE TO CHAMPION.

A bill is only as good as the people that are suposed to follow them. For 11 years I have been going into a prison facility and found that nearly every inmate is serving time because of crimes they have comitted. In the 11 years I seen one inmate that did not comit the crime he was convicted of. Because of drug use I have seen good men that have made bad choices. After reading many of the coments on here about inmates serving their time and getting released. Many [and I do mean many] inmates are not released because of one reason and I am sorry to say it is called "JOB SECURITY".

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
the problem i have is "bob" did a misdeamenor which would of only gotten him 1 year, but because he had 3 felonys in his record from over 20 years a go when he was a teen, like breaking and entering with a friend, got him 7 years. the question is but none were not even related to those 3 cases, which is a obititual offender.i thought obitual offender meant the same crime? but he is innocent on this charge and has been fighting it for 3 years,4 more to go. any comments on this.

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
When is this bill going to be addressed? Look at Cali, they are letting out 40% of their imates. Michigan is crazy to keep all of the our men in prison. Is it a racist thing or what. The most in prison is African American Men. Give these men the help they need and assist them with a good job, and watch them turn their lives around.

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
how about we do the smart thing and simply charge ourselves less per inmate per day.
we charge over a hundred dollars a day. texas charges eighteen. we don't have a death penalty, texas does.
we get less for more money. why is that?

Non violent criminals should be given credits for good behaviour. Individuals involved in violent crimes, child abuse, sexual crimes, and other behavioural crimes should have to serve full sentences

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
When is this issue going to be addressed and time off for good behavior be instituted, there has been so much talk about this and yet nothing has been done about it. time is wasting here. There are very good men and women who have done their time, who are ready to enter back into society to live the life they were meant to live but are being still being held there. They cost over $35,000 a year when if they were out, being with their families they woudl cost the system and the state nothing.

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
td,
i don't think this bill is going to be considered. early release is the least popular of the options for the legislators to consider. one of the most popular is cutting costs per inmate.
the option of early release is unpopular because it makes the administration look 'SOFT ON CRIME'. the fact that we charge ourselves more than forty other states makes us look as if we are innefficient. they'd rather look innefficient.

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
Why don't Rep. George Cushingberry step in and say something about a bill that has been sitting the house for 2yrs now. He has introduce this bill and to me it seems a race card is being played in the government of Michigan. It was just bought out how the elite party is very racist within the white house, when it comes to our minority leaders in position. This looks like the case here in Michigan. Look at all the bills which has been just introduce and address already. Who introduce these bills. Now, I hate to say this, look at our black leaders who introduce a bill, look at what happens to it. It sits on the table until a lot of noise is being made in the Media world. Two years to address a bill that has the most response from the public eyes. Something is not quite right in lansing. Maybe the people need to look at a new governor. What you think?

yes, it would, but not michigan's problems.
i have a job here, and the governor makes that job just that much harder. the legislature also makes that job harder by passing obstructionist bills against business interests. as much as you may hate businesses, they DO pay the majority of taxes.
you seem to think that CONTROLLING business is the answer to everything. but it answers nothing, except less tax revenue for the state. every business that leaves, folds it's tent, or just gives up is THAT MUCH LESS REVENUE THE STATE MAKES IN A YEAR.
budgets must be cut by that amount, spending must be curtailed by that amount. but so far, nothing of the sort has been accomplished. you like to say that I'M in LA-LA-LAND, but YOU seem to be in the land of DO-WHAT-EVER-YOU-PLEASE and TAKE-WHAT-EVER-YOU-WANT.
you also like to say that i am an anarchist. i gladly accept that title, as it means that i DO NOT NEED A KING. i do not need anyone else to force or coerce me to do the right thing. you seem to equate anarchist with terrorist. you couldn't be more wrong. as you couldn't be more wrong here.

requoting myself,,,one of his felonies was 30 years ago for stealing a pair of jeans, how can they go back that far,and give him a extra 2 years on that, plus 4 more years on the other 2 felonies. the recent one was a misdemenor up to a year. so he got 6 years for having 3 felonies in hie record from many years ago. hes been there 4 years already for the recent one he did not do. hes been fighting it for years, but has no defense.

THIS BILL 4262 SHOULD BE REVISE. IT CAN CUT COST AND GIVE THE INMATES THAT HAS SHOWN THAT ,THEY ARE REFORM A CHANGE AT NEW LIFE. ALL OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN MONEY GOES FOR CORRECTION. THATS PART OF WHY WE ARE BROKE.

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
We need a "jail Awareness" or "Scared Straight" program in our highschools presented by
cops, retired or volunteers or prosecutors. It needs to be segregated by males only who turn
16 or 17. These kids need to see just how easy it is to go to prison. All a girl or her parents have to say
is he "touched me" or "he touched my daughter" and off to the slammer for 3 to 5 you go. It does not have to even be true!
All it takes is a signed statement- and off you go and on the registry you remain! And the kids need to see that no one gives a turkey
and it will be their rectums that pay as the older inmates exploit them.
The prosecutor doesn't care, he's going home to a nice warm dinner- and kids need to hear that! Someone should take this
idea and run with it to make it functioning program that can be presented- I don't have the gift.

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
I agree with you, I have been saying this in Muskegon for three years! These kids do not know how easy it is to go to prison....my nephew is proof of that! First time offender, no criminal record, not even a speeding ticket. Scared Straight is the only way to get this under control. The kids of today are much different than when we were young. I am 41.
He was not raised in a house hold where it is talked about, nor ever seen. I did not know a criminal or someone who ever even went to prison. Nor did he. We need to bring this program into the public schools instead of putting more kids into prison. They say they need the state budget even smaller. They close prisons...what good is it going to do if "Truth in Sentencing" stays ineffect? They have the same amount going in every day, and not enough coming out. Causes overcrowding along with anxiety problems within inmates! We need this bill to get passed, and not ignored.
What is it going to take for the State Of Michigan to grow smarts? Today, I see on the news, how the Govenor is cutting ANOTHER $127.00 per pupil in the public schools! Last week, she made the cut of somewhere around $150.00 per pupil. Do the math...$267.00, around there, has been cut from our kids education in just two weeks. They are only allowed about $6200 per pupil as it is, minus the cuts, even worse. With this news, it's going to create more drop-out rates due to not being able to get the kids special attention in reading, writing, and math. Which, If you are thinking about this as I, will create more crime because they cannot get a job that pays enough to pay the bills. Createing a downword spiral effect.
How to make up for it you ask? At around $37,000 Per year, Per inmate, at 55,000 inmates incarcerated today in Michigan, give or take a few, do the math? It's astownding isn't it? There are many, many other methods incorporated, that are used today, to keep offenders "housed", with out keeping them housed in a prison faciltiy. At a fraction of the price! They just do not want to implicate it as widely, and I do not know why?
If we do not get "Good TIme" brought back in this state so they can control inmate population, I feel the problem will be catisrophic for everyone. the more they house, the more cuts will be made in the sake our childrens education.
This is the first post I have ever made, I have read plenty. Please note, there is no more time to waste. We need to get loud and have them hear our voice. Why are they ignoring this Bill 4262? Believe me, there has to be some kind of extortion going on don't you think? I cannot think of why this is not happening, when this is the most viewed bill among michigan residents. It is sitting on the desk, collection dust. Paul Candino, why is this not being discussed in your house?

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
Once again the state is taking the easy way out instead of doing what is right:
What's the right thing to do?
1. Complete all court ordered requirements (G.E.D, anger management) prior to recieving any good time.
2. Give inmates jobs with in the prisons- DO NOT PAY CONVICTS, instead for every 8 hours that they work they get 8 hours off of there prison sentence.
3. If an inmate gets in trouble (showing the he/she is not yet ready of society). All of the hours that they have earned, are whipped out.

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
The justice system is terribly flawed. Michigan jails and prisons are vastly overcrowed yet the are imprisioning first time offenders and giving the HUGE amounts of time. The money the are spending to incarcerate these kids, especially those who have no prior records and are not charged with felony, is beyond rediculous. That money should be used to improving the education systems in this country. Why the governor does not PUSH to reinstate good time is beyond reseasonable thinking. What can citizens do to get this bill passed.

Re: 2007 House Bill 4262 (Revise prison time off for good behavior )
I would like to see this bill passed. Sometimes it is so hard to stay out of trouble when you are incarcerated where you may have to join gangs to keep safe. When you live in a place that is an 8x8 room/cell and you have a roommate or in a yard not even an acre in size. There is and will be conflict. Think about it. We cannot even get along in our own families and you/we live in houses (small/large). How often do you have conflict in your families whom you supposedly love? How often do you drive on our roads and there if conflict in word or thought? These men/women are brought together from all different places in life and are put into this little cell. I know you will say they belong there for what they have done. Maybe that is true but for life, 10-20 years, or longer? What if that much time was taken out of your life for a terrible/menial mistake you had made. Would that make you think differently? Most people who have money never have to spend time like that in an 8x8 cell with a roommate. They are treated so differently.
I also would like to see a bill instituted that if an inmate spent time in prison for a crime, did all his time or was released on good behavior his past should be wiped away or expunged. Think about this..... When an inmate comes out of prison he is labeled. Something like the scarlet letter. He cannot find work because he is labeled and people do not want to hire him/help him. He has been put away so long that his family is gone so there is no help there. What is left for him to do. He turns to crime again or becomes a homeless person. It becomes a vicious cycle and you end up paying more in the long run.
I probably would not give the same privilege to the Pedophiles as they prey on children/teenagers who are innocent and cannot protect themselves.
I think you may say no one deserves to be released early and maybe that is true. Where does forgiveness come in? I do not know but, I do not want to be the judge.
