You need to go back and read about Minnisota's correctional system again. Then tell me that they are not using, already, many of the reforms we would like to see used here in Michigan. Their recidivism rate is lower because they use these reforms. They imprison the ones who are violent and really need to be imprisoned. Now give the names of some of the other states and I will look them up. There have been internal probes on hiring in the Justice Dept. Go read about them. I typed in what you said to and didn't get much in results there either. The rest of your posting is just the same old complaining you do.

Maybe if you go back and read the facts instead of just your darn numbers you might learn something.

    didn't you even look up

anything for yourself? how can you say you have independant information when you can't even look up MY EASY SOURCES to verify what is said? yes, they ARE using the things we discussed. and they HAVE NO PAROLE BOARD. they don't release inmates early. they don't allow 'non necessary' funding of prisons. but you wouldn't understand that.

    Speaking Of Minnesota Corrections

and good time: Term of Imprisonment is defined by Minnesota Statutes § 244.101 as two-thirds of the total executed sentence. For offenders who are committed to the Commissioner of Corrections for crimes occurring prior to August 1, 1993, term of imprisonment is the length of the prison sentence reduced by earned good time. When such an offender is committed, the sentence and the term of imprisonment are the same; as the offender earns good time, the sentence remains the same, but the term of imprisonment is shortened by the amount of good time earned. Executed Sentence means the total period of time for which an inmate is committed to the custody of the Commissioner of Corrections.

Your easy sources are not easy sources. If the reforms we discuss are being used in these states, then your point is?

Read the "Second Chance Act" pasted this week in the U.S.Senate.

Read the Second Chance Act Past this last week in the U.S Senate.
  • 04-12-2008 2:48 PM In reply to

Read about the internal probes in the U.S. Justice Dept. then tell me political games are not being played.
  • 04-12-2008 9:02 PM In reply to

    so, g-ma.

read the detroit free press and read about the political games being played in lansing. what about it? you confuse a hiring conflict with allowing a murderer loose. you confuse a 'wrongful loss of income' suit with a 'WRONGFUL DEATH' SUIT. now, what does that 'scandal' have to do with the accuracy of it's numbers over the last thirty years? NOTHING. you just can't resist throwing mud to take our eyes off of the fact that you are wrong. just admit it.
  • 04-12-2008 9:17 PM In reply to

    did you actually read

the 'inmate re-entry initiative'? i didn't think so. you certainly didn't read the facts i directed you to. now, as you should consider this as 'continuing education', i'm sure that you should read it. but i doubt you will. you didn't even take the time to read that h. pilori causes ulcers, and it's in your 'field of expertise'. your credibility is shot with me. it has been for a while. get a clue and contact your legislator if you still support this. you will find that the legislator will tell you in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS why he will not jeopardize his political career on the hope that your loved one will not re-offend once he is released into your tender caresses. he will also tell you that their are better ways to save the state money, that releasing inmates will cost us more in the long run, and the possible risks far outweigh the possible benefits.
  • 04-12-2008 9:22 PM In reply to

    you forgot to read the

next few sentences. "...any sentences given after 1 August, 2000 will be carried out to their fullest, with no benefit of parole or reduction in sentence." you should just keep reading, and you will be surprised what you find. minnesota INDEED does it better than us.
  • 04-12-2008 11:30 PM In reply to

    G-Ma

I suggest you get a clue. Political games are being played all over even by YOU. Your one of those that has this mentality that a nurse is a nurse is a nurse. Today's nursing is different than in the past, most nursing today is specialized to a specific field. My does not happen to be in gastro-intestinal. AS for the rest of your remarks you are wrong and you need to get a life, and get rid of your hang-up. Those inmates are going to be released and how you and everyone else deals with it will decide how much you and everyone else is going to pay tax wise.
  • 04-13-2008 8:02 AM In reply to

    oh, i've already decided

how i'm going to 'deal' with the first person to invade my home.... and prison has NOTHING to do with it.
  • 04-13-2008 8:03 AM In reply to

    but they

    WILL NOT be released early.
  • 04-13-2008 10:06 AM In reply to

    Then you will be sitting

in a prison cell. You can tell us then what prison reforms need to be done. Good luck.
  • 04-13-2008 11:45 AM In reply to

    G-Ma

No they will not all be released early. Many will not even go to prison because community- based sanctions will be used instead of prison terms.

  • 04-13-2008 11:56 AM In reply to

    G-Ma

Confused? When the hiring conflict involves party lines. Do the numbers also follow party lines to prove a point? Political games are being played. Makes me wonder if number games are not being played too.
  • 04-13-2008 11:59 AM In reply to

    G-Ma

Facts YOU directed me to READ. What Facts?
  • 04-13-2008 1:25 PM In reply to

    okay, g-ma. i'm

interested to see what proof you have of any of the things you are saying. i believe you are just 'blowing smoke' to take the focus away from the fact that you have lost. but i'll humor you. how does a 'political game' played by people who are not collecting the numbers have to do with those who are? by the way, how many of those 'political games' are played by democrats? how does one play 'political games' with raw, verifiable numbers? how does one play 'political games' with other verifiable data? i'm not saying that politics doesn't have a hand in who gets hired, but the job is simple, and mostly done by computer nowadays. how does politics get involved with telling the truth? who benefits from 'lying'? neither party is served by it, nor are the myriad of other agencies who rely on the information. and by the way, the data and the numbers come from many sources, all are in the public domain. please verify your suspicions with hard cold facts. now, if you can come up with a SINGLE INCIDENCE of a state supplying ONE set of figures, and the united states department of justice playing verifiable 'political games' with the information, i'll believe you. so, punch up all fifty state's websites, and see if the data for all those years coincides with the data the department of justice has. should be easy. i'll wait for your answer.
  • 04-13-2008 1:33 PM In reply to

    it's still legal

to defend myself in my home. now, you love the inmate so much, let them into YOUR home. don't tell them anything when they rob you, rape you, murder you, whatever. don't make a sound when they maim you. keep your mouth shut when they set your home on fire. tell all your family members to do the same. let your kids know that you are in favor of the guy who is sodomizing them being out on the streets. in other words, be good little sheeple, and do what the nice criminal says. it IS what you asked for, after all...
  • 04-13-2008 1:36 PM In reply to

    please define a

'community based sanction'. if you mean 'keep them in a local jail so the state doesn't have to pay for them, i disagree with that entirely. my community gets no benefit from it, and has to foot the entire bill for a prisoner from some other community sitting in my community's cell. if you want them in YOUR community, build a COMMUNITY CORRECTIONAL CENTER and house them. till then, keep them in the state prisons where they belong.
  • 04-13-2008 2:18 PM In reply to

    only criminals,

dictators, and democrats fear an armed populace.
  • 04-13-2008 2:56 PM In reply to

You sure get touchy, if someone makes a statement of having doubts about something. With all the games being played I have my doubts about alot of things.

  • 04-13-2008 8:36 PM In reply to

g-ma. if you are in my

house WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, there are no questions to ask. now, what questions would you like me to ask the home intruder before i shoot him? why are you robbing me? what lies did you tell the parole board to get released early? what is your drug of choice?
  • 04-13-2008 8:36 PM In reply to

    i just LOVE

your professionalism, g-ma. name calling at it's best. the guys that set fire to the sex offender were card carrying democrats. they were members of a union, and they voted for bill and hillary every chance they got, till they got landed in jail for murder.
  • 04-14-2008 10:45 AM In reply to

    G-Ma

This is coming from a so called professional? It sounds like they ended up where you may.
  • 04-14-2008 12:08 PM In reply to

    wouldn't you just

LOVE to see me behind bars? that would make me one of the most important people in your life. that would make me AN INMATE. i would deserve IMMEDIATE RELEASE in your eyes, in an effort to save this state some money. it's still legal to defend oneself. it's NOT legal to set sex offenders on fire. i haven't done anything wrong, except in your eyes. now, g-ma. i hold you personally responsible when ANY of your beloved released inmates does ANY crime, no matter how big, or how small. and TECHNICAL VIOLATIONS count just like felonies. in fact THEY ARE FELONIES. now, g-ma. the reason we don't have GOOD TIME TODAY is that NO INMATE IN MICHIGAN COULD PROVE HE DESERVED IT. till ALL OF THEM CAN, i am still against it. till ALL OF THEM CAN, i am still against this bill. till ALL OF THEM CAN, i am in favor of holding them in jail till the very last second of their sentence. and because some of them set other people on fire, i am in FAVOR OF THE DEATH PENALTY.
  • 04-14-2008 12:18 PM In reply to

    way to go g-ma.

give the radical leftist murderers a PASS while disarming the law abiding. it's okay in your book to murder a sex offender, but it's not okay to defend yourself against a murderer. it's totally alright to use a gun to rob and steal, but forbidden by the left to use it for legitimate self defense. you would let ACTUAL CRIMINALS OUT OF JAIL just because you feel sorry for them, but would FILL IT RIGHT BACK UP with those you disagree with on the right. and to think we allow pinko commies like you to vote.
  • 04-14-2008 1:10 PM In reply to

A pass? And if you kill someone you should go to prison also. Your's would be premeditiated. you have already planned it.
  • 04-14-2008 3:03 PM In reply to

    i'm glad you think so,

g-ma. have you made plans to protect your life when one of your beloved inmates attacks you? killing in self defense is ALWAYS JUSTIFIED. it is NEVER MURDER. even if YOU think so.
  • 04-14-2008 3:13 PM In reply to

    hey grandma...

every police officer PLANS to kill every criminal who tries to kill him. he TRAINS to kill every criminal who tries to kill him. he EXPECTS to kill every criminal who tries to kill him. he is RIGHT in killing every criminal who tries to kill him. every responsible gun owner does the same thing. every soldier in the military does the same thing. every person who, for whatever reason, decides to FIGHT BACK AND NOT BE A VICTIM does the same thing. i'm sorry you think that those who are not sheep are murderers. but it's just you and about a thousand other liberals across this country who share that opinion. the rest of the billion or so people that live here share MINE. you, better than anyone, should know the risks of NOT defending yourself. if you think that beatings are bad, you should see the terrible ripping apart that murder victims endure before their killers let them die. maybe you should take a short trip to the morgue and see what a determined murderer is capable of accomplishing when his 'victim' is co-operative. maybe, just maybe, you'll change your tune about letting criminals out when you see what they do with their spare time.

michigan constitution,  article 1. Sec. 6.

Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state.

     keep your powder dry.
