NO GM is 50 Billion in debt ...the delaers ...the people..out of Work...out of Homes....children living in tents etc etc...

well this is july 2010 and we have more "OIL" in michigan , but not into our cars etc..it is in the RIVER around KALAMAZOo and  heading to the "LAKE MICHIGAN.... 

 After working for over 25 years in the auto repair business I was suddenly unemployed. I instantly searched for jobs and thought with my extensive experience it would be no problem to get a decent job. I was too old and over qualified--most companies thought I would be a short term employee.Thank goodness for unemployment benefits. I never thought of drawing UC-I thought it was for lazy people who were not eager to get another job. It sure helped me. It took me over 19 months to find a decent job. I could not have made it through without it. There will always be abuses within these types of programs---but there are people that truly need it and appreciate it. Give people the extended benefits---but hold them accountable for showing their attempts to seek new employment and training.

 don't UAW workers get 90-95% of their normal pay when "laid-off" or on "change-over"?  How is THAT unemployed?

wow I wasn't aware the UAW guys had it like that. I know a couple guys at Delco and when they get laid off, they are eating beans! But fortunately they were able to keep their michigan health insurance when being laid off at times. That is definitely my biggest concern when switching jobs, let alone getting laid off or fired! People definitely need to pay more attention to the industry they are getting into and make sure it's going somewhere!

If the overall unemployment tax rate remains at 2 percent, then the state should pay it off by 2018, unless the economy slumps again.
