    life without parole

for juveniles may well be the only thing keeping big city gang bangers from going on killing sprees, and you want to ban it. obviously you don't think that life without parole has a deterrent effect on juvenile criminals.

    People change

The thing is life without parole is very unlikely in a gang related murder.I just think the law should have room to evaluate these cases after a period to see if parole should be a option every case is different and people change.

    people change???

yes, and more often than not, they change for the worst. base the sentence on the best information you have at the time, and let the offender live with the consequences of his actions for the rest of his natural life. everyone ELSE has to. why doesn't he? oh, i forgot, he is a criminal, and you are a liberal, you MUST FORGIVE HIM.

    ignorance is bliss

I guess you have absolutely no real knowledge of what the prison system consists of seeing as how your comments sound so incredibly lamant and uneducated.

I agree. People are individuals, regardless of mistakes; especially mistakes you make as a CHILD. People say that people don't chang. Who here (who is an adult) is the same person they were at 15,16 or 17?

    who here at

15 killed somebody? THAT is what life in prison without parole is for. if you wish to ban that, you are telling kids that no matter what they do, they will not be properly punished for it. you are telling them that committing murder is okay with you. if they don't fear losing their lives, they will not ever be deterred from committing the crimes. sending them to jail for 'just a few years' is a small price to pay for taking someone's life.

    no sentence deters

Research supports that LWOP policies are NOT a deterrent as the majority of juveniles do not understand they can be charged as an adult in the state of Michigan. Why don't they understand this? Because, as children, they are biologically and cognitively immature and irresponsible. This goes beyond a teenager making a poor decision because they are selfish, this is science proving that the brain is not developed enough to formulate thoughts in the same manner as adults.

    who's really ignorant??

It is just plain ignorance to think people dont change, as people grow so do their minds, do you truely think and feel the same way you did as a child???

Would You Feel That Way If

    People And Change

    >YES people CAN change.. but bottom line, a rapist will always and forever be a rapist.< By this logic, then, a person who once lived as an upright, honest, decent human being before stepping out of line and committing a crime will always and forever be an upright, honest and decent human being.
