We're losing the "scholar" in "scholarship"

What happened to scholarships based upon scholarly pursuits? What about scholarships based upon achievement? Many needs-based programs exist, but please don't eliminate merit based programs. We should reward merit, too.

    Scholarship

What about the kids that work their butts off to get good grades and are active in the community? Too bad, because your parents make a good living, you don't count! Helping those who are in financial need get a leg up is all well and good but let's not trample on everyone else to do so. There are tons of scholarships available for those who are sports stars or those in financial need but very few for our incredible scholars. Let's not take away what little there is available for them.

    the kids who work

their butts off to get good grades will all be leaving with their parents very soon. this leaves only those that "need" education, but didn't manage to get the FIRST FREE ONE we offered them.

    Scholarships

My husband and I make a decent living but there is no way we will be able to pay for our children to go to college. All their lives, we have been stressing to them that they need to do well in school so that they have the possibility of getting a scholarship. I guess we should just tell them not to bother now since, if this bill passes, they won't have a chance for a scholarship. Why is it that we feel the need to award scholarships to athletes and poor kids but we spit on the other kids? Why is it that the smart kids who work hard to get good grades don't deserve recognition? This bill is unfair.

Aldo Vagnozzi doesn't care about you or your kids

He is in the business of crafting legislation which benefits the few at the expense of the many. Sadly, many in Lansing act the same way.

    The neediest

The people who "need" these scholarships the most are the politicians who dole out this government cheese to encourage the sheeple to keep propping them up in Lansing.
