    it doesn't matter

if you are a left winger or a right winger, except in how you DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. the RIGHT winger will say, if you are late in reinstating your license, you pay a LATE FEE. a reasonable amount of money. if you are caught without a valid license, you pay ONE FINE. the LEFT winger will say, if you are late in reinstating your license, you pay a DRIVERS RESPONSIBILITY FEE OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. and if you are caught without a valid driver's license, you pay ONE FINE AND ONE EXHORBITANT FEE. people in other states are late all the time, and all they pay is a LATE FEE of about five dollars. this is the "slap on the wrist" for being late, not the "throw you in jail if you don't pay it" of the DRIVER'S RESPONSIBILITY FEE.

    That's BS

And you know it. That's just another cry baby tactic of the conservatives- to whine that their "rights" are being trampled. Driving isn't a "right", it never was. And if you demonstrate that you can't be trusted to spend the <$20 once a year on time to renew your license then you shouldn't be on the road anyway. You probably are busy eating your Big Mac and yapping on your cell phone anyway.

    not about lazy butts

These fees are not about punishing lazy butts. this is about finding ways to raise money for the state. If everyone paid there license fees on time, Granholm would not have sought this "tax." It's all about sticking it to whomever is least politically potent. Thus, you have all these bad behavior fees. There were plenty of people with bad behavior, say, a generation ago, but the state of Michigan had a sufficient tax base not to devise such fees to impose on the bad behaviors. Blaming the behavior is missing the point: government should not be in the business of seeking out and imposing stealth taxes. Find a budget and stick to it. Then, legislators would have to justify a 3.9% or 4.0% tax rate at its face value. Instead of hitting citizens with fees left and right to avoid facing the budget problem... we, as a state, are still spending like a wealthy state, which we are no longer... wake up and smell the coffee, Granholm.

and those who defend such bad behavior fees

prove that Granholm found a tax devise which ruffles the least feathers amongst citizenry. Hey, the tax doesn't affect me, but, personally, I would rather have a government which is more straight forward, even if it costs me an extra tenth of a percent or so on my state income taxes. But go ahead, beat your fellow citizen over the head with these fees. Your state government laughs as you are doing it.

    bad drivers fee

I just got zinged with this, my fault i thought my daughters registration expired on her birthday not mine, oops. so my bad driver daughter got a 70 dollar ticket, paid her registration fee and not gets to pay 300 dollars more. actually i pay for the mistake. she is acollege student and cant afford the 300. seems very fair to me after all she is such a bad driver. isnt there a difference between a bad driver and innocent mistake ?

    innocent, or stupid?

Look- I know exactly when everything we own needs to be paid and/or registered. If you don't have that simple a grasp over your family matters, I worry about you. Do you remember when to feed the pets? Better yet, the kids? BTW- you never said what she was pulled over for in the first place. Was it the out of date sticker on the plate? And you never noticed? Ah yes- another right-wigh crybaby "victim" of the evil state. Move. Try Arkansas.

proud of how this state screws it's citizens. proud of the fact that this state can add fines to fines, and raise revenue on traffic citations. so, why isn't this state financially solvent? because it's so mismanaged. and this yahoo is PROUD OF THAT TOO. probably because he hates BUSH so much he can't resist drinking busch beer, watching nascar, and beating up his wife. when you are on the far left, all you have left is arrogant pride in your liberal-ness.

    U grow up

Wake up in fact because u have no clue what u are talking about! EVERYONE makes mistakes but there is a thing called double jepordy which prevents someone for paying for the same crime twice. How is it that the state of MICHIGAN can get around this and get away with it! By the way your real quick to call someone names but not so quick to leave your own! Marie

a person who has graduated high school in michigan posted this. read it carefully. "what would you know About Michigan you in Arkansas i say but out you know nothing." the quality of the educational system in this state comes shining through in that one sentence. i wonder if that person did as well in civics as they did in english?

    Driver responsiblity law

This is crazy everyone I know is hammered for the fees on this mess. How much more is the state going to suck up. Last heard they already got over 300 million well it makes it kinda hard to get a job plus after all when there is not jobs to help poor people to pay this mess. This thing needs to be repealed NOW!!!!!!!!!! The state and Jenny have already made enough!
  • 06-05-2007 5:34 PM In reply to

    Granholm is loving it

the way people are defending this law... citizen against citizen, justifying outrageous fees for not renewing on time, while the politicians laugh and collect their monies. Wise up Michigan citizens.

Great Quote Queen jen Needs To Read

"The collection of any taxes which are not absolutely required, which do not beyond reasonable doubt contribute to the public welfare, is only a species of legalized larceny. . . . The wise and correct course to follow in taxation is not to destroy those who have already secured success, but to create conditions under which everyone will have a better chance to be successful." (Calvin Coolidge inaugural address, March 4, 1925)

    $70k a year man reduced to $20k

Yes, I too have suffered the consequence of a mistake that took my license and job away. Yes, I deserved to be punished but to have lost a job that required me to drive, pay court fees & fines that go to local and state government, then pay driver responsibility fees too. The reason this is getting attention now is because its hurting everyone, even the legislators that created this monster. Its too bad the people that write these laws don't go through more of what the people in this state have to go through and understand why Michigan is hurting and not healing. 40% of repeat offenders become repeat offenders out of frustration of the system and depression from bleak circumstance. While I won't let myself become a statistic, this has been the toughest obstacle for me to overcome and I'm almost ready to leave Michigan for a better 2nd chance elsewhere as many other have already done.
  • 06-08-2007 7:22 PM In reply to

    Confused

Just what do you think should happen to people who break the law. Driving on a suspended license is against the law. Not sure why you would be driving without one, why was it suspended. They don't suspend your license for not reason. You could have asked someone to take you to work and payed them weekly. Something is not right start by telling the truth.

    Questions

Yes my question too I can't believe how they complain. I always get my car inspected and renew my license. I really did forget to only once and got myself to motor vehicle to renew my registration for my car I think I was only a couple of days late. Since than it has never happened. Its called responsible.

"IF" you get a ticket, but "WHEN" you get a ticket. you sound pretty sure that every citizen of this state WILL get a ticket and have to pay the state exhorbitant amounts of money. it DOES seem that is the goal.
  • 06-11-2007 8:49 AM In reply to

    When Is Correct Today

Nobody drives perfect all the time. You will get one sooner or later. I know 3 60 year old women that have gotten cautght up in the spider web in the last month. All three had perfect (30 years plus) records. All three said the level of disrespect from the cops was unbelievable. All three were B.S. tickets. One for not using a turn signal coming out of a driveway onto a side street. One for obstructed vision since she is a widow and keeps a mans hat in the back window thinking she can fool the bad guys into thinking there is still a man at home. The third for a rolling stop. In the last 10 years the cops have gone from protect and serve to harrass and hassel. Almost everyone of these power hungry high school nerds are out there writing tickets for stuff that would never have got you pulled over, let alone a ticket. Lots of these revenue departments let the ticket jockeys work more overtime if they write enough tickets. This means they now have the power to take your money in two ways, one. they write you the stupid tickets. two. They work more overtime on your tax dollars. If you don't think we are in a police state just ask one of these guys. The older ones are disgusted by what they have become. The cops are now lower than I.R.S agents. We have way too many cops.
  • 06-11-2007 8:53 PM In reply to

    remember,

the words 'to protect and serve' are only found painted on the sides of police cars, and not on any police cars in michigan. they are not found in the constitution of the united states, nor are they in the michigan constitution. they are also not part of the job description of a police officer. they are an advertisement, a gimmick, a promotional program to keep the people's minds off of the real reason they are abusing our rights.

    why is someone

who corrects grammar or spelling always called names? we must get this from our early school days. this law would repeal a law that is definately wrong, possibly criminal, and totally unconstitutional. the original law had nothing to do with making drivers more responsible, it had everything to do with making drivers PAY. the law's and the law maker's sole intent was to raise revenue through guilt instead of raising revenue through industry. the state stepped away from it's duties and stepped into performing duties that were not the proper function of government, and has demanded that the people pay for the performance of these unnecessary duties for years. i think that all revenue enhancing 'gimmicks' should be abolished, and the state should get back to the business of being a state, not a NANNY STATE.
  • 06-17-2007 8:41 PM In reply to

    it's because the

left wingers are doing an awful lot of stealing these days. taking money from the people by fraud is stealing. taking money from the people by force is stealing. 'driver responsibility fees' do both. it is wrong. yet you support it.

You do the crime you pay the fine

Oh please, it only cost $7.00 more to renew your lic. after it exp. $10.00 for a plate if you renew late. and as for the Driver resp. fees you only get those if you you mess up really really bad like drive without ins. get 6 or more points on your lic. drive on a susp lic.or drive drunk. And if you are talking about paying LOTS and LOTS of money to the state (thousands of dollars) then you are a drunk driver. If you are stupid enough to do any of that then you should have to pay lots of money for your lic. maybe next time you will think twice before you break the law.
  • 06-22-2007 7:50 AM In reply to

    You Sir,

are a "usefull idiot" (look it up since you were educated by the government) You have no idea how easy it is to get to 6 points. The revenue agents are laying in wait in many places. You know not of what you speak. Talk to some teenagers and listen to their stories, they aren't all "bad kids" or bad drivers. The stories my kids told me were unbelievable until I started to hear them from many many people. I know 2 senior citizens that have been caught up in the states snare in the last couple months, neither one had a ticket forever, both were B.S. tickets, both were treated rudely by the state revenue agent with a gun....sad. And they wonder why they get no respect. I would rather deal with the IRS than a cop. The insanity continues because of mental midgets like you. Just wait, you too will get a foot in the trap. Then you may change your mind.

    Wrong Again Libby

"And if you are talking about paying LOTS and LOTS of money to the state (thousands of dollars) then you are a drunk driver." The average drunk driving crash is at a bac of about .25 ..The average drunk ticket is written for about .09. When they lowered the limit all it did was make more $$$$$$ for the imperial state government. If you think that you are safer today then I have a nice gun control law for you. The good decent folks getting caught up in these new, draconian drunk laws don't deserve it, are not a threat and are having their lives ruined by the state. The so called "lawmakers" that enact this rot should be hung. It is almost impossible to tell the good guys from the bad guys anymore. The prosecutor that wanted to be tough on Paris Hilton has a wife that has had a warrant for her arrest since 1999 for driving on a suspended. In this time she has crashed three times. Why isn't he being tough on her? Why hasn't she done time? He is using government toads, oops I mean workers to raise his kids and take care of his house. Nifong tries to put three innocent men in jail to further his political goals. These guys and their foot soldiers the cops control everything. If you get caught up in their money machine you are screwed.
