2005 Senate Bill 624 (Name one road for Reagan and one for UAW sitdown strike)

Introduced in the Senate on June 22, 2005, to rename part of Highway M-3 in Macomb County as the "Ronald W. Reagan Memorial Highway,” but only if House Bill 4718 also becomes law, which would rename part of M-54 in Genesee county as the "UAW Sitdown Strike Memorial Highway". Also, to name the portion of US-24 in Wayne County the "10th Mountain Division Memorial Highway"

The vote was 38 in favor, 0 opposed and 0 not voting

(Senate Roll Call 600 at Senate Journal 102)

    The union intelligentsia speaks

'Anonymous Citizen' wrote here about simultaneously naming one highway after Reagan and another after the 1937 UAW "sitdown strike": "that cover uaw u atta work perfect....." And these guys get $65 per hour for cutting grass? How about naming another highway after the PATCO air traffic controllers strike?

Straight to Mexico is where the UAW road goes.

Do these people have no shame...

...or do they consider frivolous legislation such as this more of a priority than ACTUALLY running the state? Last I heard, BOTH sections of road ALREADY have names AND numbers assigned to them. This is not as if no one is aware of where they really are. Naked publicity seeking bills such as this have NO place in the legislature. It's a shame that we don't have representatives or even leadership in the legislature that can see this!

    Telegraph Road Forever

Legislators have discovered they can peddle the naming rights to Michigan highways in return for political capital. This is generating some of the lamest political posturing ever seen. Nonetheless, I didn't say anything when Larry Julian pandered to veterans by naming part of I-69 the "Purple Heart Highway." I didn't complain when Valde Garcia bought cop votes by naming part of US-127 after a local officer who got clobbered while running a speed trap to feed the township budget. And I thought renaming the Jeffries Freeway after Rosa Parks might even be a good thing. But I can't take any more. The main street of Mount Clemens is NOT the Ronald W. Reagan Memorial Highway. It's GRATIOT AVENUE! And Telegraph Road is TELEGRAPH ROAD, you twits! How long before Woodward Avenue becomes Soupy Sales Boulevard?
