Re: 2005 House Bill 4803 (Ban school year starting before Labor Day )
I want to know how Jackson, Michigan's Hunt School is getting away with calling their school year "year round" to avoid starting after labor day. I just saw the 2011-2012 school year schedule and it's essentially the same as the school schedule (with odd days off here and there) for our other schools that don't have this silly "year round" schedule. My nephew has to start school this year on the 8th of August (the hottest part of the summer). Schools should be banned from starting before labor day! It's bloody hot in schools during the summer. Instead of getting a few weeks off, these kids just get a few days here and there and the summer vacation is just a month long. I support the ban on starting school before Labor Day and i believe this ridiculous "year round" scheduling should be done away with as well. It conflicts with other schools' bussing schedules and it messes up parents' schedules as well. Because my niece (who is starting high school this year) will have different days off than my nephew (who is 11), my sister will have to find someone to babysit my nephew during the days he has off. My sister and brother-in-law both work during the day and my niece would be at school on my nephew's days off. So to everyone in this forum supporting "year round" schooling. You better think again. NO school should start before Labor Day..
