    Teaching isn't easy

I'm guessing none of you have lived with a teacher because I do and she works really hard and puts everything into it. She didn't take the job because of time off it's because she loves to work with kids as crazy as that sounds. Also teachers don't get paid enough for the work they put in. I think that you should spend 7 hrs sometimes more with little kids or even teens that never stop talking and talk back more than anyone in the world. Yes some teacher are in it for some of the money and have lots of vacation time so you should be careful when you talk about all teachers.

    What Students think!!!!

I am a student and I can't believe they are thinking about year round schooling! Don't you think that we should have some time off for enjoying the summer not looking forward to going back to school! I can't believe some of you people think that we don't learn enough already! So why do you think we should have more school? Please reply if you have an answer I would really like to know. Thanks for taking the time to read my opinion even though some people think students don't have the right to write their opinion. News flash its a free country.

    Year Round Schooling

That is ABSURD! Year Round Schooling is just madness! I am a student, and having school year round would just cram us even more with our schedules. I bet, so many people would get fed up with it that they would skip school. This idea is no good!

    Ugh!

The bill states that schools can not start until after Labor Day unless they are a year round school. It doesn't say anything about going to a year round program (at least I didn't see it when I skimmed over the wording). Furthermore, Year round doesn't mean spending more time in school, it just means getting your time off spread out more. I have a friend who teaches in NC in a year round school, and they go for 9 weeks, and then have 3 off, back for 9, then 3 more off, etc. There are blocks (I think 2 weeks long or so) at Christmas/New year, and in the summer (june or july I think) that everyone gets off. It's not like you would never get another break from school again...

Re: 2005 House Bill 4803 (Ban school year starting before Labor Day )

I want to know how Jackson, Michigan's Hunt School is getting away with calling their school year "year round" to avoid starting after labor day.  I just saw the 2011-2012 school year schedule and it's essentially the same as the school schedule (with odd days off here and there) for our other schools that don't have this silly "year round" schedule.  My nephew has to start school this year on the 8th of August (the hottest part of the summer).  Schools should be banned from starting before labor day!  It's bloody hot in schools during the summer.  Instead of getting a few weeks off, these kids just get a few days here and there and the summer vacation is just a month long.  I support the ban on starting school before Labor Day and i believe this ridiculous "year round" scheduling should be done away with as well.  It conflicts with other schools' bussing schedules and it messes up parents' schedules as well.  Because my niece (who is starting high school this year) will have different days off than my nephew (who is 11), my sister will have to find someone to babysit my nephew during the days he has off.  My sister and brother-in-law both work during the day and my niece would be at school on my nephew's days off.  So to everyone in this forum supporting "year round" schooling.  You better think again.  NO school should start before Labor Day..
