    Can we ..

all give a big AMEN to that ???? Just yesterday coming home from work some bimbo yapping on her cellphone started drifting into my lane....AND I HAVE CRAZY LOUD SAMSON GROUND POUNDERS ON MY BIKE...She was too busy on the phone to know what was going on around her. Since she couldn't here my bike, I figured she couldn't here my horn either. I'm pretty sure she saw my finger though. Whoever wrote the original "What" post must not ride, or else they were just making a bad joke.....that's why I felt the need to make the correction for them...LOL Frank

    Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.

I'm Male, Republican, and have a cycle endorsement. I have 6 kids. All 3 of the boys have road bikes and wear helmets no matter what state they are driving in. One is also a motocross racer. Two of my 3 girls ride bikes with their husbands. One of them, and her husband, are alive today because of helmets. The crack in the helmet shell and the dent on the roofline of the car were proof enough for the EMT's law and doctors. But really, I don't care if you wear a helmet. You know the value of what you are protecting. The only thing is, don't make me pay for your hospital costs and the cost of raising and educating your kids. You guys claim only your statistics are factual, but never state the sources. Another claim I see repeated here is that the head snaps forward when you hit something if you are wearing a helmet. Does the torso stay glued to the seat? Another bogus claim is that a full face helmet will catch on the drip ledge of a car. How many cars are made with a drip ledge these days?

ok mr. male. why don't you go to

nhtsa.com, there you will be able to se the true stats. that is a government enity that shows what we are talking about. also michigan consultants, in lansing did an economic study of the results if this stupid state would modify it's helmet law. the report stated that sales of motorcycles would climb along with accessories. plus the increse in tourism to the tune of $1.2 BILLION. the report also stated that 2700 new jobs would be created. jenny was supplied with this report along with the report from nhtsa. she was also supplied with THOUSANDS of letters, post cards, etc. in support of this legislation. THOUSANDS of letters were sent form out of state riders that would come to michiganistan if the law was repealed bring lots of $$$$ to saging economy. as a typical DEMOCRAT she has chose to do what she wants and not the will of the people. this woman is a control freak. she is now getting off her butt to something to get some jobs. but what took her almost four years to do it ??? answer: ELECTION YEAR. so there mr. male, there are a few places you can go to see the stats that A.B.A.T.E. uses for their argument about this issue. and by the way, i'm glad that the helmet worked for your family members. so many times it is blunt force trauma to the torso that takes a person out not the head injury.

    re:Wrong,Wrong,Wrong

I'm glad too, that your family members came out of their accident o.k.. A point that needs to be made here though, is that cars and motorcycles SHOULD NOT BE COMING IN CONTACT with each other, as often as they do. I know that would be in a perfect world, but come on.....when will drivers of cars hitting bikes be held accountable ? When will they be educated ? If they are facing seriuos time, and fines MIGHT help. Even the word "accident" implies guilt. It means somebody f*&^ed up.(usually the car driver) Frank

i live in a rural area in s.w. michiganistan.

been here all my life. i've never been polled in a governors race as many of you haven't also. i find it interesting that devos is supposed to be behind by i guess three percent. i would assume that a lot of poll gathering is done on the s.e. side of the state being that is where highest population is. that side of the state is mostly democrat with the shrinking unions trying to stay alive. in my opinion the polls are not what they claim. most people that i have talked to on this side of the state, which is more conservetive, are saying devos. i'm sure that in the end devos will triumph. jenny will either go to canada, or resume her lawyer practice and continue to get into peoples pockets !!!!! devos will sign the helmet bill, we will see more money comming to the state. and once again be the GREAT STATE OF MICHIGAN. home of FREEDOM loving people.

    How True

If the media can convince the people that jenny on the block is way ahead, a certain number of conservative republicans will stay home on voting day. Ass to this the fact that the lib/dems will fire up all the busses to cart people to the polls (and in detroit let deceased people vote) and you can see how she got elected in the first place. The vote came out very close.

    Wrong, etc....

I love your opening, but you tip your hand when you refer to "driving" a motorcycle. "You guys claim only your statistics are factual, but never state the sources." With regard to the sources of statistics, they've never been hidden. I've posted to this thread many times and have cited to state databases, NHTSA, various and sundry safety-Nazi groups as well as print media. So have other guys. You also wrote, "Another claim I see repeated here is that the head snaps forward when you hit something if you are wearing a helmet." I've read most everything on this topic, but don't recall that ever being asserted. It certainly has not been the subject of repeated postings. "Another bogus claim...." (Well, so far you haven't stated a single "claim" accurately, so your use of the word "another" is just wrong-wrong-wrong.) "...is that a full face helmet will catch on the drip ledge of a car." Again, I don't recall ever reading that here. If this was put on the table, I'm confident that it must have been mentioned as just one way that a certain type of injury mechanism -- snagging -- could occur. You haven't really followed this discussion now, have you? And why include that little preamble with your alleged political affiliation and familial status? What's that got to do with the time of day? I really have to wonder if anything you wrote was honest. Jim Westminster, CO

re: Let me jump in here, too.....

Hi Frank, I read your post and understand where you're coming from, and for the most part agree. As a sportbike rider I hate to see other riders rolling wheelies and other stupid stunts whether it be in the dangerous setting of a public road or even a private controlled setting....I think its a shame the destroy such a beautiful piece of machinery. So yeah, irresposible riding like that, I just figure Darwin will win in the end helmet or not. There is something that I think you might not know about though. Your post talks about why you carry so much coverage. I'm referring to the part where you talk about a cager not seeing you and not wanting your wife to sell the house because of medical bills. Well, she wouldn't have to, and not because of your coverage. There is a law in Michigan that states that any time a motorcycle is in an accident with another motor vehicle(not including another motorcycle) the other vehicle's insurance pays ALL medical bills of the rider(and passenger if there is one) regardless of fault up to where the MCCA takes over. So you're automatically covered in that case....unless of course the cager doesn't have insurance, or pulls a hit and run and never gets caught. Which is why its still better safe than sorry and carry some extra coverage. So your rights as a cyclist in this state, other than the obvious helmet issue, aren't so bad. I agree 100% with Suppressed about going back to being an "at-fault" state. This no fault crap is ridiculous. Though I'm feeling a bit of hostility from you about the whole coverage question. I was simply asking because you were kinda vague. Its a very savvy policy you picked to make sure you were covered right up to where the MCCA kicks in. Might as well get your money's worth if it comes to that. You do pay a lot more for coverage than I do for coverage. I carry my medical through my employer because its a great deal, significantly less than if I were to buy it myself. (remember I'm a local govvy) Oh, and I'm not capable of having a "happy Harley day" as uh, I ride a Kawasaki. Yeah yeah I know "kinda sloppy" "kawasuki" "Cowasaki" I've heard a lot of 'em. I'm more apt to say, keep the rubber side down. As for the guy that is now convinced that I'm a flaming A-hole, 1) thanks for yet another wonderfully pointless post, 2) nice to see you got your ticket to the clue bus, 3)after rereading my post you replied to, I'm not sure what convinced you of it, but at least you won't go around thinking I'm a nice guy. I'd hate for someone to think that. As for Jim in Westminster, CO: its okay Jim, they (and you) can flame me. I normally support this kind of legislation(including this one) but I refuse to blindly support it without seeing both sides. So to say I'm arguing both sides, yeah I'll do that. I try to look past the propaganda that both sides put out to formulate my opinion. I don't think anyone should without considering all the ramifications it could have. as always guys, flame away, I'm going riding for a couple days and won't get the chance to feel your "love" until later. Joe

Joe...I'm not "flaming" you and I know from your priors that you support the repeal in principle. Your hesitation is based primarily on a fear that insurance or other vehicle-related costs may increase due to more and more severe motorcycle-related injuries if the helmet law is repealed. My response was to tell you that this has not been the experience in Colorado, Ohio or, at least as far as I'm aware, anywhere else -- the question is asked and answered in the experience of other states...that's all. Have fun on the trip. I ride Red and would never criticize Kawasaki. Jim Westminster, CO

being a pro-helmet bumper, i'd have figured you from around detroit. most bumpers are from around there. pro-jenny bumpers too. nowyou know why this state is in the state it's in.

Why does your information on TV state total lies. You keep on saying the gov is down and dirty but it is you that is being dirty. I have not heard her say one thing yet but yoou ad keep saying the press says she has said. I think you need to explore new ways to run for office.

    Dear Concerned Citizen

I can see that Jenny's public school system has served you well. Keep the open mind and don't listen to anything that Mr. DeVos has to say. You do know that he is one of those evil right wingers that believe in freedom and personal responsibility don't you? Sure wouldn't want to have that load on your wittle shoulders now would we? As always, keep your expectations low and you will always be happy with Jenny as your nanny.

  • 08-09-2006 7:40 AM In reply to

yes we are still on this "HELMET THING"..

and we won't go away until it's passed. it's about FREEDOM OF CHOICE. doesn't that mean anything to you ????? today it's the HELMET THING, tomorrow it will be somr FREEDOM that touches you. granholm based her veto on emotion, plain and simple. she didn't look at the facts, and, ignored the 20,000 to 30,000 post cards, thousands of phone calls, and letters from out of state riders supporting this bill. these are people that would come here to help feed this ECONOMY. why does she support pro-choice abortion, but, isn't pro-choice about helmet use ??? it doesn't make sense. and this is a person who wants to GOVERN our state ??? in 1969 the state police were charged with APPROVING a helmet that could be used state wide. THEY NEVER DID IT !!! our own state police didn't do thier job. since then we have been riding in possable violation. aren't we supposed to look up to our law eforcement, especially our state police, to guide us through these unknowing times. ??? i guess it all depends who or what it is. this is why i'm voting for devoes. this man understands that this law needs to be in force. he understands that this is freedom issue. that you as an ADULT, know whats best for you. give him your vote in november.

    back from trip

I went with 5 buddies for a trip out west. MI, WI, MN, SD, WY, MT, ND, MN, WI, IL, IN and back to MI. The only state I was forced to wear a helmet was MI. 9 states and the only one that MADE me wear a helmet was MI (thanks jenny). Between the crappy roads, helmet laws and lack of jobs I don't see staying around much longer. My 5 friend and I spent approx. 2K each. another 10K in tourist dollars gone from MI. I wonder what riding in the UP is like. I won't know until the helmet law is repealed. It is to easy to slip across the border and ride free. Wait till they take away something you enjoy, then you'll care about freedom.
  • 08-15-2006 7:17 PM In reply to

gald you had a great time. too bad..

michiganistan doesn't need the tourist dollars from bikers. when florida repealed their law, so much money started come into the state they didn't know what to with it. jenny vetos a law that would bring millions in, then, starts a champaign to increse tourism. does something sound a LOT goofy. she supports pro-choice abortion that would KILL an inocent fetus. but she wants to protect us from ourselves by making us wear a helmet. how many more things will this woman take away us ?? kinda makes ya wonder, huh ?

    Re: The truth about Jennifer

I am an independent searching for websites that offer a balanced view of candidates and State issues. This posting caught my eye. I must say that you appear to have a lot of "inside" info. I wasn't aware that precinct delegates had such close contact with those in governmental positions. Personally, I believe that a political party is well served when its members can voice opposing views. Believing in something and not being swayed by party members, pressure groups, emails and phone calls is an attribute I admire even though I may not support the position taken.
