2005 House Bill 4455 (Require state minority health programs )

Introduced in the House on March 3, 2005, to establish a “minority health disparities research and education act” in which the Department of Community Heath would be required to monitor minority health progress; establish a minority health policy; fund minority health programs, research, and other initiatives; staff a minority health hotline that establishes linkages with other health and social service hotlines and local coalitions; and develop and implement an aggressive recruitment and retention program to increase the number of minorities in the health and social services professions

The vote was 99 in favor, 7 opposed and 2 not voting

    A worthwhile issue

This is a worthwhile issue and I appreciate that it is being discussed. I hope the bill passes.

    Sure

Why single out minoritys for "special treatment"? Is everyone else secondary? This biil sounds like a Demo sponsored bill trying to keep or buy more "minority" votes.

Have you talked to Benton Harbor about this?

    May have suggestions.

    reverse discrimination

This is a classic 'affirmative action' trick. Many taxpayers like myself cannot afford health care coverage yet we are expected to finance 'special' peoples needs.

    How different

How are "minority" health problems different than those in the majority and why do they get a special bill?

    Research

The minorities need to quit making kids they can't or won't provide for. Quit using illegal drugs and selling them to others. Quit hopping into the sack with whatever brang ya home. (Berrien county has/had the highest AIDS per capita of anywhere in Michigan). Stop smoking cigarettes, pot, crack etc. Spend some of the money you would have spent on 20 inch wheels and other bling and use it to take your kids to the doctor. There, most of the work has been done for you. Send me the money. The problem, no matter how much you spend on programs like this, is to get them to listen. It will require a cultural change, not a government program.
