2005 House Bill 4074 (Expand community college pensions to part timers )

Introduced in the House on January 27, 2005, to make part-time community college faculty and administrators eligible for the same pension benefits as full time administrators and public school employees. This would allow community colleges to offer defined contribution plans (401k-type plans) to these employees

The vote was 88 in favor, 14 opposed and 7 not voting

    Where's the money coming from

How many people will be eligible for retirement benefits under this plan? Where is the money coming from? How will part time benefits be calculated? How many hoursv per year will be required for full benefits? And last-how much-in dollars and percent-of our annual budget is spent each year to cover retirement plan expenses?

Besides the obvious lack of funding for this legislation, why do we want to give pensions to PART-TIME Community College teachers? Don't these people have other jobs? Are part-time cc teachers really going to go elsewhere to get pensions? If they are that high of demand, why are they part-time at a cc?

    Retirement costs

I wrote our esteemed Governor asking about total state retirement costs and she/they replied that the information is in the budget. (Just try and decipher it).

    are they nuts

I have always been a republican. But, when I see this kind of wasteful spending I have to wonder just why I am a republican. The state is broke. Taxes are way out of sight. Everyone in government says there is no money for the state to run on. Yet they keep on giving tax breaks to just about everyone but the tax payer. I don't know where this will ever stop, but I for one am thinking of leaving this state and let it go the same way Detroit is going, to the dogs. As an very old Queen said, let them eat cake.

    Outrageous

Why is it that only public servants (government employees)get the best retirement and health care benefits? Most of them are part time already. Some, like teachers, have the whole summer off. It's time for a tax revolt!

    ARE THEY NUTS

I AGREE WITH YOU. NOT ONLY DO THEY GIVE TAX BREAKS TO THE ONES THAT DON'T DESERVE IT, BUT THEY ALSO GIVE THEM MONEY TO FURTHER BREAK THE LAWS, THAT OUR STATE GOV. AND FEDERAL GOV. HAVE ON THE BOOKS. BILL OF RIGHTS, TITLE Vll, ETC. JUST BECAUSE THESE COMPANIES SETTLE OUT OF COURT, ANY COMPANY THAT PAYES MONEY BECAUSE OF LAWS BROKEN, SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BEFORE GIVEN ANY GRANTS OR TAX PAYERS MONEY, TO IMPROVE THEIR OVER ALL JUSTIFICATION OF LOOKING GOOD TO ONLY THE POLITICAL PEOPLE, ON THE LOCAL LEVEL AND STATE AND SO ON SO FORTH.
