    You just proved my point!

Teachers are overpaid! I did not know the stats. Thanks!

Yeah, that's why do many grads are flipping burgers!

    Some value!

    Another solution

Enact legislation that would have the public sector also pay it, as opposed to cutting social services to nothing.
  • 07-21-2006 6:22 PM In reply to

    Where have you been?

Medicaid has been repeatedly cut! Maybe to fund school districts to pay teachers' exhoirbitant salaries and benefits.
  • 07-21-2006 6:28 PM In reply to

    Your implication.

You imply that others are second class citizens as they are not/do not blindly support teachers! Also, you spelled "their" incorrectly.

    Several Questions

Do you know how much IT/DP professionals spend in taking classes to stay current? Or tools? Do you know how much time IT/DP pros spend UNCOMPENSATED trying to figure out a bug in their system that a vendor missed? Do you know that some IT/DP professionals even write software and are uncompensated? Do you really want me to continue?
  • 07-21-2006 6:51 PM In reply to

    Outsourced IT pro here.

And I HAVE taught training classes. Wouldn't mind getting into teaching, but I'm not cerified and would have to start all over again and get a second BA, according to several universties. Dumbest thing I ever heard! Was also told I could "volunteer" at voc ed. Can't volunteer, as my family has to eat and we have bills. What's going against me? My age. But, who was the first one that is contacted by the computer acts up? ME!!!! Would like to see you get along without one.
  • 07-21-2006 7:06 PM In reply to

    Give IT a try!

I used to edit tech manuals, bring other paperwork home (no difference between that and grading papers), get emergency calls at all hours, have to to out of state at a moments notice, take (and taught) classes to stay up-to-date on new hardware and software, spend my own money and sometimes get reimbursed, sometimes not. (Doesn't include surfing the net to find out more info, but, throw that one in too.) Talk about stress--try working tech support! It's always your fault when a computer goes down. Had one person call me (presumably on a cell phone) and wonder why the computer was out during a power failure! Hello?

    extra costs...

Stop whining about having to do "extra" work. I work a salaried job and have to stay late and take work home all the time. Heck, teahers are union with tenure! They could quit all the extra stuff and never get fired. Try working a regular job and keeping in on merit like the rest of us. You complain about having a full time job where you are off at least 2 months a year... real rough.

    it's amazing how

the liberals, teachers being legion among them, are just fine with the proposal of "universal public health care" for everyone except themselves. why do you suppose that is???

  • 10-29-2006 12:42 PM In reply to

    This bill...

...is not about universal health care. It is about punishing teachers (I'd like to know what our crime is) for having the audacity to bargain for health care.
  • 10-29-2006 1:01 PM In reply to

    no, it's about

control. you are not allowed to control your own destiny, it isn't the liberal way. you have had far too much control over your lives and the lives of those you teach. the liberals in congress are only out to have that next little bit of control over you, so that soon, their control will be total. you bargaining for yourself is counter to their beliefs.
  • 10-29-2006 1:30 PM In reply to

Teachers are NOT sacrificial lambs. Sure it's a community service.

    Doesn't mean we are stupid.
  • 10-29-2006 8:47 PM In reply to

    so, how much do you

spend a year on union dues that pump money into campaigns that do nothing for teacher's causes? how much does your union spend to elect candidates that are AGAINST education?
  • 11-27-2006 2:01 PM In reply to

    Zero

...union dues go to elect candidates. It's illegal to spend union dues on political campaigns. That's what PAC money is for.

It's amazing how anti-education Americans are!

All I hear is: we are falling behind the rest of the world, our children need mentors, we need top jobs for the future, we need future leaders, blah blah blah. However, who is the first person to be attacked and ridiculed? Teachers. Don't people realize that teachers educate this country's future? Teachers make too much? Have too much health insurance and big pensions? OK...if that's the case, then why didn't you become a teacher? How come you're working whatever job you are working making "way less" than we are and are unhappy? YOU CHOSE to not become a teacher, why fault us? Wouldn't you want the people directly responsible for the future of your children, of this country (!) to be making a decent living and have health care? Would you live in a home build by drunkards making $8 an hour? No. Would you get an operation done by a doctor who made $10 an hour and worked for minimum benefits? Heck no! OK, so then would you trust your kid's education to low-paid hacks? YES! At least that is what most people in this country think. How ridiculous. Every other country in the world is starting to pass us by because education is valued and respected in those countries. In America, we just give it lip-service and then do everything we can to destroy it. Remember the old adage, "you get what you pay for?" I DARE YOU to send your kids to a school run by people making $25,000 or less a year (since teachers make too much). Then after they graduate you can go see them at McDonald's and be proud that you just ordered a hamburger from your high achiever.

    money comes from WHERE????
  • 11-27-2006 4:08 PM In reply to

    unions have no

funds of their own, like government. every dime of what they spend comes from their membership. every dime of what they spend comes from DUES.

Why should teachers have free health care? Most of us other professionals that are more educated then most teachers have to pay for our health care out of our own pockets.

If your bad attitute I wouldn't send my children to your schoolem. I would school them myself since I am more educated then you. My degree is in math, science and physics.
  • 07-09-2008 7:47 PM In reply to

    Health Care

Get your facts straight. First of all, teachers do not get "free health care". In exchange for lower wages, teachers have negotiated to have health care premiums paid for by the district. You are welcome to negotiate the same contract with your employer. Secondly, your claim that most other professionals are more highly educated than teachers is nonsense. Most teachers hold masters degrees in addition to the additional training/education they are required to have.

    Re: MESSA is the problem

The real problem with Public Unions is that the Union leaders during tough and lean times when the tax payers are tapped out themselves will "only" except lay-offs as a means to balance their towns, cities, states governments.

This places the taxpayers who are the providers and funders of these public union employees through tax collections which brings risk and safety issues when the fireman and police are laid off instead of taking less in wages and/or benefits to balance their cities or townships budgets.  Putting the homeowners/taxpayers at risk by the Unions "only lay-off policies" is wrong and immoral.

Union leaders to their constituents:  "Keep them dues coming"!..............

    Re: MESSA is the problem

The taxpayers are the employers of the union teachers. The unions are and have been more than willing to work within budget constraints.
