    2003 House Bill 4457

Introduced in the House on March 26, 2003, to require a person to either set a vehicle’s parking brake when parking on a road, or to place the vehicle in "park." Current law requires setting the brake, but not not refer to placing the vehicle in "park." If a car has a manual transmission, setting the parking brake would still be required

The vote was 106 in favor, 0 opposed and 4 not voting

(House Roll Call 178 at House Journal 44)

    from good to stupid

    Sal,
You had it right the first time...... Having a law requiring a parking brake or using "park" is nonsensical. If someone's car does some damage because it rolled away and hit something, then and only then, should there be some responsibility assigned.
I will continue to leave my vehicle parked without the parking brake and in gear while it's on level ground.
Before you know it, some ding-a-ling will have us carrying bricks (or chocks) to place around the tires and the tires will have to be set at an angle too or we'll be breaking the law.
Think "smaller government" not smaller ideas.
