Introduced in the Senate on February 26, 2003, to clarify that the law which requires a hunting license to carry a gun where game animals are present does not prohibit a “carry concealed weapon” (CCW) permit holder from carrying a weapon in the field without a hunting license. The bill does not authorize actually taking game without a hunting license, however

I do not support this proposed legislation. It is not enforceable. If an individual with a ccw license enters a hunting area without a hunting license, and kills an animal, there is not way to monitor, prove, or enforce the law requiring a hunting license. I will watch to see who would vote for this sabataging bill!

Message to Sen Garcia:
Thank you for some common sense legislation. Citizens have the right to self defense where ever they are. There should be nothing illegal about protecting oneself.
Those people who poach game out of season already violate game laws and are subject to appropriate penalties.
According to conservation officers, the handguns typically purchased for self defense are almost never used to poach game. Even if these handguns were the preferred choice of poachers, it is the act of poaching that is illegal.
Law Enforcement does not bust a woman because she dresses like a hooker and walks down the sidewalk (although it is pretty obvious and reasonably probable), they bust her when she is caught soliciting or performing.
I support catching poachers; I can not support infringing on the rights of honest law abiding citizens and will not presume they are guilty of anything until there is proof.

I support this bill. Non-hunting hikers and campers in game areas will be able to protect themselves and family.

I support this bill about time somebody wised up and started giving our rights back.

I agree with this bill. Just because one has a hunting license does not guarentee one follows all the game laws. If one is not hunting one should not need a hunting license to carry a CW,just as one sitting behind the wheel of a car does not need a drivers licence if one is not driving.

This legislation is very much needed. Michigan's fireams laws are numerous and sometimes conflicting, particularly when it comes to transporting firearms to and from the field or target range and carrying side arms concealed.

This bill begins the process of providing much needed clarification for these laws, so they are easily understood by all.

I urge that this bill be passed, and that further efforts to simplify, modernize and clarify Michgan's gun laws be pursued at the earliest convenience.

Good legislation! The right and ability to protect ourselves should not end where the woods begin. Not everyone in the woods is a hunter, and the ability to protect ourselves should not be overridden by a hypothetical case of someone killing a game animal without being in posssession of a hunting license. I will also be watching the votes on this bill.

HUH?

I don't see the logic. Is it any different than a person carrying an unconcealed firearm. If he takes game illegally, the DNR will definitely prosecute whether he is licensed to carry concealed or not
