Detroit School District

The district has a massive hole in its budget, continuing decline in enrollment, incredibly high drop-out rates. The process leading to the appointment of an emergency financial manager has been triggered. This is the backdrop for the school board firing Superintendant Connie Calloway, hired just 18 months ago. What do you think?

30%   ????  Isnt that a sucess for...Detroit.

Do you REALLY expect brain surgeons to come out of that environment??  You want to lay the blame on a superintendant??  How about the parents.

Detroit is their shithole, money aint gonna fix a community that doesnt want to be "fixed" or helped.

Why are you even talking about a perpetual hopeless case?

Pfft.  Non-issue.

how about we QUIT spending billions on the detroit school district and FORCE the leadership to make the tough choices? perhaps the school board will FINALLY decide that the kid who keeps on beating up the teacher REALLY DOESN'T NEED TO BE EDUCATED. maybe they will decide that the kid who hasn't been to school in years REALLY DOESN'T WANT TO BE EDUCATED. maybe they will decide that the kid who deals drugs in school, and runs an underage prostitution ring REALLY DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE EDUCATED.

but TRUE/FALSE...

it IS an issue. weren't you the one who wanted to put in a streetcar in detroit? why?

so the kids who go to the "**** hole" schools can ride a streetcar for free as well as a bus? all on the public dole?

where are your socialist principles???

public schools uber alles!!!!!!!

isn't that your motto????

stay focused....

the real issue here is just exactly how long are we going to let the partisan politics of detroit dictate that the rest of the state pay the bills for their misdeeds.

let's let detroit pay for what detroit wants and needs.

that way, THEY are responsible when services don't get delivered, and perhaps the residents will go to someplace that WILL spend their tax money more responsibly. leaving the rest of detroit to falter.

the problem with detroit is that the rest of the state ASSUMED IT'S RESPONSIBILITY.

we not only took on what is OUR responsibility, but we took on the responsibilities of the unresponsible. we DID THEIR JOB FOR THEM.

it's time we went back to minding our own business and let detroit mind IT'S own business. we have dumped billions of our dollars into detroit for nothing. that money was poorly spent by us, and by those who we gave it to.

it's time to cut off the funding and let detroit go the way of every failed experiment in socialism.
