2007 Senate Bill 511: Balance 2006-2007 budget (Senate Roll Call 342)
Passed 20 to 18 in the Senate on September 23, 2007, to adopt an omnibus Fiscal Year 2007-2008 budget that authorizes spending $574 million less from the state general fund than the amount proposed by the House and Gov. Granholm. (Details are presented in a House Fiscal Agency analysis). Among other things the bill holds higher education spending at the same level as the current year (rather than the $43 million, 2.5 percent hike proposed by the governor and approved by the House). This bill and the K-12 budget contained in Senate Bill 237 represent approximately $900 million less spending than proposed by the House and Gov. Granholm. This occurs in the context of a major tax hikes vs. spending cuts budget battle.
