1) Rep. Hoogendyk's "no vote explanation" [by Admin003 on March 11, 2004]
Rep. Hoogendyk, having reserved the right to explain his protest against the passage of the bill, made the following statement:

"Mr. Speaker and members of the House:

We need to take every opportunity to cut the size of government. A very detailed report was submitted by the State Court Administrator's office recommending the reduction of one judge in Kalamazoo and one judge in Saginaw. Oddly, those two elements did not make it into the bill. I am convinced we could have done without that extra judge in Kalamazoo county. It is a missed opportunity for the county and the state to save precious resources."
