Senate Bill 552......Absolutely NOT!! This kind of continuing special privilege for state employees is just the sort of thing that is crippling our state. Private sector businesses, in general, cannot afford to offer such special consideration. Productive, taxpaying citizens and businesses can no longer afford to endure the financial mismanagement represented by SB 552.
The persons our legislature expects to foot the bill for this kind of extravagance would only rarely be offered such a deal. Fifty year-old persons in the private sector are expected to find another job. The responsibility for a choice not to do so should be borne by the individual citizen. SB 552 places the entire burden for the 'generosity' of the state only on the shoulders of already overburdened taxpayers. State employees already have the benefit of a pension from the state. That will not be lost.....unless, of course, the state decides to spend that, too. Persons under the age of 60, regardless of time on the job, should be expected to find another job rather than be provided an early, full retirement at the expense of the taxpayer....the producer. Those of us who pay the bill for state employee compensation and benefits have continued to make sacrifices while state employees wrangled to protect their recent pay raises....state employees who already make, on average, more than the people who employ them.
Once again, our so-called representatives in Lansing prove to us that there is no end to the ways they can think of to spend the money of those who actually 'earn' it....who actually produce, through their labor, the wealth enjoyed by far too many beneficiaries who, for whatever reason, believe they have a right to the work and incomes of others. Stop spending! Cut spending! Expect state employees to join the ranks of the unemployed when laid off....you know.....like the rest of us from whom you 'take' the money to spend on every sort of feel-good project you can dream up! Lansing, you're out of control! You're out of touch with the real world out here! You just don't get it and it would appear than you never will. It also appears that you really don't give a damn.
