Introduced by Sen. Burton Leland (D) on February 2, 2005, to require that a vehicle impounded by police under the motor fuel tax act must be returned within seven days if the owner is not charged with a crime, is found innocent, or is found not liable for a civil infraction. The owner could not be assessed any impound or forfeiture fees in these cases. The legislation is part of a package comprised of Senate Bills 138 to 143.
