2015 House Bill 4731

Repeal marriage license requirement, and marriages performed by government officials

Introduced in the House

June 17, 2015

Introduced by Rep. Todd Courser (R-82)

To revise details of provisions that allow a marriage between a man and a woman to be kept private and unpublished. Along with House Bill 4732 the bill would also to repeal the state’s marriage license requirement, and only allow clergy to “solemnize” marriages. State marriage certificates would still be issued, and a couple could still become married through a common law procedure (see House Bill 4733).
