2015 Senate Bill 347

Mandate auto insurers cut rates and more

Introduced in the Senate

May 21, 2015

Introduced by Sen. Coleman Young (D-1)

To mandate that auto insurers adopt a pricing model prescribed by the bill that encompasses returns on a company’s other lines of business, and then cut rates by 20 percent. The bill would also impose a “post and hold” type of rate regulation on auto insurance insurers in which rate changes would have to be approved by state regulators and then could not be changed for year; restrict premium differences based on where a vehicle is garaged; and more.
