2014 Senate Bill 747

Authorize high school/college concurrent enrollment

Introduced in the Senate

Jan. 29, 2014

Introduced by Sen. Goeff Hansen (R-34)

To explicitly allow state universities to enter agreements with public school districts to let high school students take college-level concurrent enrollment courses, subject to various conditions and requirements specified in the bill. These courses allow a student to earn both high school and college credits. Tuition would be paid by out of the district’s per-pupil foundation allowance at a negotiated rate. Tuition would be paid by the school district at a negotiated rate. The bill would establish as the “intent of the legislature” – but would not require – that tuition would be at a rate that covers the university’s marginal cost for the class and which does not exceed its in-state tuition rate.
