2009 Senate Bill 1047: Allow local governments to buy state employee health coverage
  1. Introduced by Sen. Alan Sanborn (R) on December 18, 2009, to allow (but not require) the state civil service commission to let local governments “buy in” to the health insurance coverage that the state provides to state employees.
    • Referred to the Senate Government Operations and Reform Committee on December 18, 2009.
    • Referred to the Senate Reforms, Restructuring and Reinventing Committee on January 26, 2010.
      • Reported in the Senate on April 15, 2010, with the recommendation that the substitute (S-1) be adopted and that the bill then pass.

The Mackinac Center's synopsis of this legislation says it requires employees to pay 20 percent of the premium (15 percent if they have a health savings account). 


The actual language of the bill includes no so such provision(s).
