2015 House Bill 4858

Ban forcing clerics to perform same sex marriages

Introduced in the House

Sept. 9, 2015

Introduced by Rep. Cindy Gamrat (R-80)

To prohibit requiring a religious official to perform or “recognize” a marriage in violation of his or her conscience or religious beliefs. Probably by coincidence, the bill was introduced shortly after a county clerk in Kentucky was jailed for refusing to issue marriage license for homosexuals following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling whose effect was to mandate that state and local governments do this.
