Dave Hildenbrand (R) on March 21, 2012, to allow up to three drivers license reinstatements for a person whose license was suspended for failing to pay so-called “driver responsibility fees” (a.k.a. the “bad driver tax”). These very expensive fees for certain violations were originally adopted in 2003 to avoid spending cuts in that year’s and subsequent state government budgets. Under current law, only one such drivers license reinstatement is allowed.
