2011 House Bill 4899: Impose older truck ban and other diesel restrictions
  1. Introduced by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) on September 7, 2011, to prohibit pre-2007 diesel trucks over 14,000 lbs., buses, school buses, and construction equipment from being operated unless their motors are replaced or retrofitted to standards mandated by the California Air Resources Board, subject to a $5,000 per day fine for violations. The bill essentially replicates a California law, and among other things would mandate annual truck smoke and tampering inspections with a $40 fee; authorize taxpayer subsidies for diesel retrofits; impose a new tax on leases of diesel farm or construction equipment; impose a truck-idling limit of five minutes in any hour (subject to a $750 fine); registration of all diesel engines over 50 horsepower including farm tractors; and much more. This would all apply only to trucks registered or garaged in Michigan, not ones just passing through.
    • Referred to the House Regulatory Reform Committee on September 7, 2011.

We should all agree that the time for change is here. Older big trucks and diesel regulations are a good start for that. I am thinking of acquiring some new body lift kits for my business, I think now it's time to do it, I'll know what to chose to fit into the legal terms.

Environmental justice is a euphemism for imposing draconian rules on society.

These restrictions on trucks are government over reaching.  The government should not be involved with this aspect of commercial life.  Some trucks, reefers, must run to keep the food contents cold or frozen while the truck is parked so this law would obviate its own impracticability.  It sounds like we have an over zealous legislator trying to "make his mark" with the democratic party.
