2011 House Bill 4671: Cap school superintendent pay; revise certification criteria
  1. Introduced by Rep. Kurt Heise (R) on May 24, 2011, to prohibit school districts from paying superintendents more than what the state superintendant of public instruction gets paid. Also, to revise the criteria to obtain a school administrator certification. The bill would prohibit limiting qualification criteria to include professional school experience only, or requiring more than a masters degree, and would give the state Board of Education discretion to include other professional experience in the criteria.
    • Referred to the House Education Committee on May 24, 2011.

I really think that if we cut from the schools we cut from our chances of a better future. We should be a aware that these people are responsible for our children's future. I owe my degree's reputation to my teachers and intendeds, they had a lot to say on the type of person I am today.

This legislation is a waste of time.  First, there is no money for small school districts to pay exhorbatent salaries to Superintendents even though it is a 24/7 job.  Second, in this environment, Superintendents start a job and never get a raise unless they go to a wealthy district with higher per pupil funding (Novi, Bloomfield Hills, Royal Oak), no health insurance co pays and high fund balances.   Like the lessons ineconomics, the free market will prevail.  I find it funny that a republican house and senate, who favor deregulation and small government, actually discuss legislation like this

Hey Rep. Kurt Heise, how about capping salaries, health care, retirement and other benefits for representatives, senators, etc. like yourself. You are all worthless and overpaid, and you play a major part of the money shortage in Michigan.
