- Introduced by Sen. Gilda Jacobs (D) on September 22, 2010, to increase the monthly pension payments by 16.7 percent for legislative and judicial branch employees, and executive branch political appointees, who retire this year and whose age and years of government employment add up to at least 75 (for example, 15 years on the payroll at age 60), or who have at least 20 years on the payroll and are age 45 or more; see also House Bill 6512. Note: recently-passed early retirement bills for state and school provided pension “sweeteners” of 6.6 percent. See also House Bill 4605 passed in the last lame-duck legislature of the Engler administration (2002), which gave enhanced benefits to approximately 120 political appointees and legislative staffers; and also House Bill 6208 passed in 1998, which boosted the future benefits of legislators elected in 1994.

1) Re: 2010 Senate Bill 1500 (Give legislative, executive & judicial employees “early-out” pension hike ) by hannah on November 18, 2010Business as usual in Lansing - Politicians give State Employees an "incentive" to retire by increasing their retirement incentive from 1.5 to 1.6.... We have to get rid of all these expensive state employees. Then politicians turn around and want to increase their retirement package by 16%..... good grief
Must agree wholeheartedlly with not giving 16.7%INCREASE in pension payments, et al. I am on Social Security - we were told NO INCREASE in COLA....so why must these rich people get any increase at all?? Good for the goose, good for the gander.
It.'s only taxpayers money. Why lay people off when you can pension them off-at age 45! Was there anything in the bill to keep the state from filling those jobs after they pensioned the employee off. Was there anything to keep them from double dipping and getting another job in a taxpayer supported institution? Looks like Jacobs knows which way the tide is turning and wants to give the employees a nice going away present and screw the taxpayers one more time before she gets the boot. Vote her and (those who support this bill) out of office at the earliest possible opportunity.
