2010 Senate Bill 1340

Impose rate reduction mandate on insurers

Introduced in the Senate

May 19, 2010

Introduced by Sen. Hansen Clarke (D-1)

To force insurance companies to lower auto and homeowners insurance rates by 20 percent. Presumably companies unable to cover costs and anticipated claims at the lower price, or unwilling to accept the lower return on investment, would be prohibited from selling insurance in Michigan. The bill would impose a wide range of additional mandates, restrictions and regulation on the remaining insurance companies.
