I pay $76.00 per year now for license plate renewal. This bill says the fee will be $10.00 every five years. It says it will eliminate the need for a Secretary of States office in each county. If the elimination of those offices saves the state the loss of the present license renewal fees, this sounds like a good deal for vehicle owners.

For the roughly 7.5 million privately registered vehicles in Michigan this means that every 5 years citizens will be burdened with an additional $75 million in taxes and we will have to dispose of 7.5 million plates.  This does not sound like the economic or environmentally responsible thing which government should be doing.  What problem is this initiative trying to solve?  And what percentage of the 7.5 million vehicles are affected by this problem?
