2009 Senate Bill 452

Give cash for “A’s” to Detroit school students

Introduced in the Senate

April 22, 2009

Introduced by Sen. Hansen Clarke (D-1)

To create a pilot program in one Detroit high school that would require report cards every five weeks, and pay students $50 for each A on a report card, $35 for each B, and $20 for each C. An “F” on a report card would forfeit any A, B or C money for the period, unless the student makes up the failed work. Every five weeks half the money gained by a student would be paid, and the balance would be paid if and when he or she graduates. The maximum a student could gain in a single year would be $2,000.
