Introduced by Sen. Gilda Jacobs (D) on April 1, 2009, to impose a new coverage mandate that would require Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance policies to pay for vaccines required as a condition of attending a K-12 school.

I support this bill because I think vaccines are an extremely important health promotion tool and if a patient is paying for health care coverage, they should automatically be entitled to receive the childhood vaccines as part of their premium, with no copay or out-of-pocket expenses. Childhood vaccines are offered free of charge at most county health departments, so why should a person with coverage have to pay anything out of pocket?
