2009 Senate Bill 375: Authorize remonumentation of Michigan-Indiana state line

Public Act 260 of 2010

Introduced by Sen. Ron Jelinek (R) on March 12, 2009 To appropriate up to $500,000 to pay for the remonumentation of the Michigan-Indiana state line proposed by Senate Bill 374. The money would not come from a state "Land Survey and Remonumentation Fund" created for projects like this, and funded by a fee imposed on recording deeds (originally $2 per deed, but increased to $4 by House Bill 6490 of 2002). That's in part because the fund was depleted in a "fund raid" by the legislature for $15 million in 2006 to avoid spending cuts and reforms.   Official Text and Analysis.
Referred to the Senate Local, Urban, & State Affairs Committee on March 12, 2009
Reported in the Senate on April 30, 2009 With the recommendation that the substitute (S-2) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
Substitute offered in the Senate on May 5, 2009 To replace the previous version of the bill with one that revises details but does not change the substance of the bill as previously described.
The substitute passed by voice vote in the Senate on May 5, 2009
Passed 34 to 1 in the Senate on May 6, 2009 To appropriate up to $500,000 to pay for the remonumentation of the Michigan-Indiana state line proposed by Senate Bill 374. Because of a $15 million "fund raid" in 2006, the money would come out of the state general fund.
Received in the House on May 6, 2009
Referred to the House Government Operations Committee on May 6, 2009
Reported in the House on May 12, 2009 Without amendment and with the recommendation that the bill pass.
Amendment offered by Rep. Vicki Barnett (D) on December 2, 2010 To remove the "tie-bar" to Senate Bill 374, which means this bill can become law without that one also passing.
The amendment passed by voice vote in the House on December 2, 2010
Passed 60 to 38 in the House on December 2, 2010 (same description)
To appropriate up to $500,000 to pay for the remonumentation of the Michigan-Indiana state line proposed by Senate Bill 374. Because of a $15 million "fund raid" in 2006, the money would come out of the state general fund.
Received in the Senate on December 2, 2010
Passed 36 to 0 in the Senate on December 2, 2010 To concur with the House-passed version of the bill.
Signed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm on December 14, 2010
