2009 Senate Bill 375: Authorize remonumentation of Michigan-Indiana state line

Public Act 260 of 2010

  1. Introduced by Sen. Ron Jelinek (R) on March 12, 2009, to appropriate up to $500,000 to pay for the remonumentation of the Michigan-Indiana state line proposed by Senate Bill 374. The money would not come from a state "Land Survey and Remonumentation Fund" created for projects like this, and funded by a fee imposed on recording deeds (originally $2 per deed, but increased to $4 by House Bill 6490 of 2002). That's in part because the fund was depleted in a "fund raid" by the legislature for $15 million in 2006 to avoid spending cuts and reforms.
    • Referred to the Senate Local, Urban, & State Affairs Committee on March 12, 2009.
      • Reported in the Senate on April 30, 2009, with the recommendation that the substitute (S-2) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
    • Substitute offered in the Senate on May 5, 2009, to replace the previous version of the bill with one that revises details but does not change the substance of the bill as previously described. The substitute passed by voice vote in the Senate on May 5, 2009.
  2. Passed 34 to 1 in the Senate on May 6, 2009, to appropriate up to $500,000 to pay for the remonumentation of the Michigan-Indiana state line proposed by Senate Bill 374. Because of a $15 million "fund raid" in 2006, the money would come out of the state general fund.

  3. Received in the House on May 6, 2009.
    • Referred to the House Government Operations Committee on May 6, 2009.
      • Reported in the House on May 12, 2009, without amendment and with the recommendation that the bill pass.
    • Amendment offered by Rep. Vicki Barnett (D) on December 2, 2010, to remove the "tie-bar" to Senate Bill 374, which means this bill can become law without that one also passing. The amendment passed by voice vote in the House on December 2, 2010.
  4. Passed 60 to 38 in the House on December 2, 2010, to appropriate up to $500,000 to pay for the remonumentation of the Michigan-Indiana state line proposed by Senate Bill 374. Because of a $15 million "fund raid" in 2006, the money would come out of the state general fund.
Who Voted "Yes" and Who Voted "No"

  5. Received in the Senate on December 2, 2010.
  6. Passed 36 to 0 in the Senate on December 2, 2010, to concur with the House-passed version of the bill.
Who Voted "Yes" and Who Voted "No"

  7. Signed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm on December 14, 2010.
