Here is the totality of what this bill proposes that is news (in the bill's own language):
(j) Assesment of all childred in the program ... at least three times during the school year using the "Get It, Got It, Go!" screening assessment of preschool literacy benchmarks developd by the center for erly education development at the university of Minnesota. ...
Note well the mandate to use, solely, the Get, Got It, Go! program. This is classic legislative micromanagement.
Legislartors may rightly mandate that periodic assessments take place as a matter of policy, but to name the specific assessment program to be used is overreaching by a huge margin. If the need for statewide uniformity is substantial (and it probably is), the Department of Education is best suited to select the specific assessment to be used.

Here is the totality of what this particular bill proposes
(in the bill’s own language):
(j) Assessment of all children in the program who
will be at least 4 years of age as of December 1 of the school year at least 3 times
during the school year using the "Get It, Got It, Go!" screening
assessment of preschool literacy benchmarks developed by the center for early
education development at the university of Minnesota. The program shall report
the results of the assessments to the department. The assessments shall be
conducted at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year.
Note well the mandate to use, solely, an assessment program
called “Get It, Got It, Go.” This
is classic legislative micromgement.
Legislators may rightly mandate child/student assessment as a matter of
policy, but to specify the specific assessment program to be used is
overreaching by a huge and foolish margin.

Why do we keep pushing our babies to grow up faster and faster? When can they just be kids, without having some assessment or "gotta learn" thing pushed in their faces? Is it any wonder that even elementary age kids have more emotional problems than their parents' generation had? Relax and let kids grow and develop at their own pace. Stop pushing!
