Introduced by Rep. Marty Knollenberg (R) on October 13, 2009, to only allow legislators to collect reimbursement for documented travel and lodging expenses related to attending sessions in Lansing. Note: Although it is not mandated by statute, the legislature currently gives members a $12,000 annual expense allowance, in addition to their $79,650 salary, health insurance and post-retirement health care benefits. No documentation is required to collect the $12,000.

The legislature would be well advised to adopt this as soon as possible and help restore credibility and integrity to the offices to which they have been elected. This is only right and open and long overdue!

It's about time this happens. I don't understand why the $12,000 hasn't been taxed since there is no way of knowing for what the money was spent.
