• Introduced by Rep. George Cushingberry (D) on September 22, 2009, to transfer programs currently managed by the Department of History, Arts, and Libraries to other state departments, mostly the Secretary of State. The legislative package (House Bills 5423 to 5446) would abolish the department but retain almost all of its programs. Gov. Jennifer Granholm proposed closing the department and redistributing its programs, but to different departments.
